The latest and greatest from the Wine development team is now available with Wine 2.21 which include support for Direct 3D indirect draws.

Here's their highlights:

  • Still more metafile support in GdiPlus.
  • Indirect draws support in Direct 3D.
  • Calling convention fixes on ARM.
  • Improved serial port detection on Linux.
  • Services fixes on WoW64.
  • Better DPI scaling in the Shell Explorer.
  • Various bug fixes.

They noted 16 specific bugs they've been able to close. From that list, they've corrected a bug in NieR:Automata where bullets were invisible. They also fixed The Witcher 3 freezing systems in some cases, fixed an issue with multiple games needing sample_c_lz for cube/array textures (Winexy, Witcher 3, Flame in the Flood) and more.

How does the NieR: Automata perform like? In Wine DB I can see it's silver. Does anyone managed to play the game?

Didn't look at the report and I don't even have Nier, but anything over garbage should mean that it's at least playable at least after workaround (though not everything may work/be tested and glitches and heavy performance issues can exist)

As super maintainer of NieR Automata in last time test works but FAR mod dont work (CSMT are required for prevent flickering)

However i dont recommend wine vanilla for test DX10/DX11 games because lack of many staging patches (many staging patches allow work many games)

But next staging aka staging 2.21 wiil be interesting because add this vanilla DX11 patches more staging

@mrdeathjr your work always amazes me.
Just out of curiosity - do you update Wine HQ DB from time to time? From your video it looks like NieR: Automata works very well. Are you going to post your results as silver / gold / platinum for Wine 2.21?

Thank you, meanwhile can be possible more tests will be added

Yeah some time update results but for now still waiting more DX11 patches, more patches related sound (alsa in tales of berseria, fallout 4 and others) and more related in input side (annoying bug in fallout 4)

But i think next wine (wine 2.21 have many chances to be last wine of 2.x series) is begining of RC phase (freezing code) according alexandre julliard wine conf action items

However for older titles wine 3.0 is big thing compared to wine 2.0

Witcher 3 freeze was affecting Mesa users and required special patch workaround. Good that they fixed it now. The next big one to fix would be:

Wonder if it works with Diablo 3. So, my friend finally convinced me to play it.. and then it stopped working in Wine.

I suppose they broke it when they updated it to drop support for XP. Unfortunately it runs worse in Windows 10 than it did in Linux with Wine.

You can use PlayonLinux to choose which wine version you want to use with the game. That is handy when regressions like that happen.
