It seems Firewatch developer, Campo Santo, is going to continue supporting Linux with their next game In the Valley of Gods [Official Site].

They're continuing to develop games as an indie studio, so they will be self-publishing. I'm happy they're able to continue to remain indie, because Firewatch really was quite an amazing experience. If you haven't tried it and you love a good story, do check it out! Anyway, back to In the Valley of Gods…

It's another first-person adventure game, this time it's set in Egypt in the 1920s. You play as an explorer and filmmaker as you and your partner are attempting to make a seemingly-impossible discovery and an incredible film. That's a very interesting synopsis, so hopefully it's just as interesting as it sounds.

The confirmation comes from their FAQ, where Linux is specifically mentioned as a platform for release:

In the Valley of Gods is in development for PC platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux) […]

Hmm. Hard to tell what the game is actually about. Probably first person in the vein of Firewatch, at least. Two women, but are they the protagonists or is this something that happened prior to the game and you're dealing with the fallout of their actions? They don't seem to care about the treasures, so what is it about filming that sunrise that's so important? They're definitely there without authorisation.

A good short film though, and it'll be interesting to see how it ties in to the actual game when it gets closer.

Looks interesting! Certainly one to keep an eye on.

Campo Santo has definitively a recognizable artistic direction producing beautiful sceneries. I hope they will deliver another good story (archaeological mystery with forgotten tombs that you can find once a year when the sun rise just in front the statue?), despite some pacing issues in my opinion Firewatch is worth the 4 or 5 hours narrative experience. :)

Shhhhh... You had me at Firewatch.

That is nice! Can't wait. Firewatch was amazing. The pacing was perfect, no story stretching or anything. I have high hopes for thisone as well. Hope they deliver same or even better experience with this.

Looks bloody amazing.. I hope there is some good game-play this time, I love their games but they have no replay value. All art and no play make homer go something something..

Looks cool...I'll keep an eye on this one.

I think they are not looking so much for physical treasures but more for some kind of Egyptian symbolism. Like title says "In the Valley of Gods" and Ra is the Egyptian sun God, so maybe that's why they'r filming sunrise. If i'm right, then this game should be very interesting.

Damn it, it comes out in 2019.
At least they already have a game page on steam, so I can already wishlist it.

Quoting: GuestHopefully they’ll make something better than Firewatch, which I didn’t enjoy much. The story was bad, and there wasn’t any gameplay to speak of, so…

You might be out of luck here...

QuoteAre you the folks who made Firewatch? Is it like that?

We are in fact the folks who made Firewatch. In the Valley of Gods is in no way related to Firewatch but if you enjoy well-told and well-acted dynamic video game stories, or you just really liked Firewatch, this game is for you.

I on the other side am happy to hear this.
