If you're stuck for something to do this weekend, you might want to take a look at the X Franchise on Steam, it's quite a good deal.
You can play these for free until Sunday 9PM UTC and they are also on sale if you decide to purchase them to continue playing.
- X3: Reunion - 50% off
- X3: Terran Conflict - 70% off
- X Rebirth - 75% off
Worth noting, that X Rebirth doesn't currently have the best of ratings, but the other two that support Linux are looking pretty positive. The free weekend system on Steam is pretty handy, since you're not limited in features like a demo, but they don't last long of course.
They can be pretty complex games, so it might take you an entire day just to learn how to actually play.
See the sale page on Steam here for the list. As always, you can check our Sales Page any time for cheap Linux gaming deals.
i own X3 reunion....Join the club, I have all but the most recent X game, had them for a while & haven't the first clue what to do in any of them, it's even worse now I have a steam link as I can't see the UI in game to do anything at all when I try playing on my BIG screen.
i have no fkn clue what to do in that game

It's totally sandbox. You start small, fly around, do missions, earn credits, buy bigger ships, play the economy by building stations, earn more money, invate sectors, explore for hidden pirate bases for certain goodies, etc.
It has an initial steep learning curve at first, but it has potential to give you hundreds of hours of fun. Play it with joystick if you can.
X3:TC is an upgraded version of X3, better interface, a good mission system (or better than X3's), more ships, more variety. In this one you also get terran sectors with are different from the rest, with different ships and items, etc. Nice to visit and try, even more when you find Aldrin.
X3:AP is the same but an improved interface and more missions.
I probably played them all for more than 2000 hours (I know, I'm not proud).

In fact, per my experience earlier and other people's in the forums, playing with a controller can be damn near impossible so if you don't have a joystick don't bother.
