If you can't beat them, join them? It seems that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive may be getting a PUBG-like mode.

I should state, for the record, that this is entirely speculative of course. However, it's interesting to note especially for Linux gamers since we do not have anything really like PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS and the developer has no plans for a Linux version. I would certainly appreciate something resembling it on Linux, as I do love those types of games.

The information comes from Valve News Network, where they go over a bunch of patches to look at content not yet released. The results really very interesting!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Valve did this, as it could bring back a lot of players to the game. It would also of course be open to a much wider playerbase, since Counter-Strike: Global Offensive works on both Mac and Linux. Honestly, it just makes sense. They have a pretty good FPS engine, there's a current type of FPS game-mode that's incredibly popular, why wouldn't they go for it?

It would be interesting, if they went the Dota 2 way of allowing custom game modes, not just an official new PUBG-like mode. However, the content leaked as shown in the video above, does make it very clear that it seems to be some sort of survival mode. This Survival Island map, plus everything that seems to be coming like parachuted supply drops, will make for a rather interesting update—if it comes that is.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks, VG24/7.

Already I'm bored to wait for the end of the rounds in CS ... in such a game, I would go crazy. Unreal-Tournament-style is perfect for me: you die? you re-appear in the max. 5 seconds in base, full stop! No time to waste my life waiting for pro-gamers to finish their round of hide and seek :-P
Moreover, no collective goals and team actions in PUBG? Can you propose temporal alliance to other player(s)? or only "all against all"? ... What the interest in that case to play against other humans on the web? Opponents could be bots with different skills. AI is bad to collectively build something with human and adjust with other biotic intelligence to reach a common goal. In pure competition "all against all", AI can do the job.
I need to try it to understand, but not a that price and not on windows :-DD

You don't have to wait for the round to end. If you or your team dies, you can immediately start a new round with different 100 people. There solo, duo and squad servers.

The game is badly optimized, some seriously bad UI design. There are many things wrong with this game. But still, the game play is sooooooooo good, it's pretty much a steal for this price.

I hope something better comes out soon. Until then, PUBG is fun.

Interesting.

Looks like that guy doesn't grasp the concept behind "competition", and all that comes with it. Pretty strange for a competitive game, if you ask me.

"Competition is good, but not against me" is not a whining that will get you anywhere.

I second the other voices here, this is in essence a game mode that has been around for a long time, although seeing it professionally executed is really nice. I was never really fond of the default CS gamemode, so that's even nicer for me :)
Meanwhile, there are a lot of look-alikes you can play on various other games, such as Gmod, Minecraft, etc.

I think CS does the deathmatch better. Or GTA:SAMP/GTA 4 whatever. I think that guy doesn't know games have been doing exactly the same thing for ages, lol.

Embarrassing that Epic have never released Fortnite for Linux, particularly after Tim Sweeney's childish rant about the Windows 10 store. Words without power. Funnily enough, not a single one of Tim's rants (and there have been a few) have ever even mentioned Linux, despite his company's engine supporting the platform. It's like he's fundamentally unaware of it.

Or, more likely, money talks and he know who butters his bread: Microsoft.

I think I'd rather see an Unreal Engine battle royale game on Linux than on Source 2. Unity would be more appealing, too. Battle Royale mod for Rust, anyone? Source games are nice and fast for shooters, but man, they feel thin and stiff these days. I can just imagine walking around a corner with great loot only to be headshot as soon as my nose is visible. When's the last time you hid in a bush in a Source game?
Expalphalog Dec 19, 2017
I would love to try a Battle Royale game. Hopefully one with mutable chat so I don't have to deal with the sorts of people that infest multiplayer games. I was about to pull the trigger and buy The Culling when it's reviews started falling fast.

It almost seems like PlayerUnknown has created a new genre, much like how games such as Doom created the FPS genre, I know he's not going to be happy, but I would be proud if I were him that everybody likes my game enough that everybody's trying to copy it! (I know there were earlier FPS games than Doom, but I can't think of any off the top of my head and Doom was the one that made the genre popular)

I was asking me the same.

A Source2 would be much better to handle a type of game like PUBG and his massive maps

It almost seems like PlayerUnknown has created a new genre,

Yeah, they call it Battle Royale. (And used to call it Deathmatch or King of the Hill...)

much like how games such as Doom created the FPS genre, I know he's not going to be happy, but I would be proud if I were him that everybody likes my game enough that everybody's trying to copy it! Wolfenstein 3D was there, and known well enough to earn the new releases. But of course, Doom was bigger.

Ha! id Software were mere copycats of MIDI Maze (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ooks6QWpmk8) with their unoriginal Wolfenstein 3D! I haven't heard the developers of MIDI Maze whine at the time, though.

Pubg is dying. Check reviews status. And many of my friends stop playing it there are many cheaters too. And shooter mechanics with cs go not suit for battle royal. It should be something like arma 3 mechanics But there is wingman mod which is realy.fun with two man army gameplay. Still im up for souce 2 engine which compat with vulkan as in dota 2

Well, I can't think of a developer that wouldn't love to have a game as dead as PUBG.

I've seen the name about, but have no idea what this pubg thing is. That's probably a comment about complete lack of interest if it's not available on GNU/Linux.
PUBG is the reason why linux only accounts for 0.2% of the platforms in use on steam.
Chinese people playing PUBG on windows 7 to be exact.

And the survival aspect overall: unlike a classic deathmatch game like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, you don't respawn in PUBG; when you die, it's over. So, there's more tension, more stress, more strategy, more skill involved. And more luck, unfortunately.
Are you kidding? Unreal Tournament was all about Last-man-standing (to me).
To be clear: I never liked deathmatch, as that was about who got the most kills. Last man standing needs brains and stealth, and a good hideout 8-D. LMS+Low Grav... No instagib.
If you see me, my tag is DirtyCamper 8-D.

I don't know about China. Here in Malaysia, PUBG is the hottest PC game right now. Still, mobile phones and/or free-to-win games still the biggest thing in Malaysia.
The reason why Windows 7 is popular in Asia mainly because of piracy. Before then, Windows XP was popular one to pirate.

I once had five Atari STs set up in my bedroom, linked by midi cables. Power bars everywhere, TVs jammed together. What a game. And it worked brilliantly! We played it for for hours, knowing that we'd likely never go to such lengths ever again. We were right... Worth it though.

Do you know why people are not upgrading to Windows 10? AFAIK, you can upgrade a pirated Windows 7 as well (though the result will still not be legal).

Simple, generally people hate change(s). I know some businesses such as camera/photofinishing shop and public service still using Windows XP either original or pirated version. My former workplace (quits because wanna help my friend's business) last year only just migrated to Win 7. So, do the math when they will upgrade to Win 10 :D.

Another thing (again) is the ever growing (and confusing models) of smartphone. For social media/general internet usage, smartphone is good enough for average people. Hell, few days ago when I got parcel from Pos Laju, the postman ask me to sign on his company's smartphone. Before then, it just good ol' paper & pen.

But, on gaming perspective, Windows 10 (no idea whether pirate or original) is on the rise because of very obvious reason (new CPU no longer support Win 7).

On Malaysian Linux community, I've never found one that always active. Before I found Gaming on Linux, I always watched Penguin Recording's videos (he's Malaysian) on YouTube before he goes MIA. That's why I'm here, which is also improve my rusty and terrible English :P.
