The crafting MMO Wild Terra Online [Steam, Official Site] has now officially launched, come check out the launch trailer and decide if it's the MMO for you.

We don't have a lot to choose from when it comes to MMOs, so it's good to see Wild Terra Online support Linux. It's come a long way since the early builds I've tested, the UI is looking a lot nicer that's for sure.

What makes Wild Terra Online so different to other games, is that there are no NPCs and everything is player built. It's pretty hardcore, so it's not for the impatient, likely one of the reasons it's not massively popular. It does seem to have a pretty dedicated fan-base, with people on it every day.

If it looks like your jam, then it's currently on sale on Steam with 34% off. The developer has been pretty supportive of GOL in the past, giving us hundreds of keys to give away which was really great of them.

"Pretty hardcore" and "not for the impatient", the last time I tried the game, translate largely to "dreary grind while stuck alone in a forest". Like most sandbox MMOs, there's no feeling of a persistent world with its own history, and nothing really to do but grind for materials to build your base (which can be interesting) and gank new players on the PvP servers.

Might be willing to give it a try again, now that there's a full release though. And the hunger system is kind of interesting. And the oldschool CRPG-looking graphics do work pretty well with the environment.
