Feral Interactive are up to their usual funny business with a brand new Linux port teaser up on their radar.

This is now the second unannounced Linux game they're teasing (here's the other), so I can't wait to see what they have cooked up for us. The last teaser was put up a good few months ago now, so hopefully at least one of them will release soon. They're both in the outermost part of the radar, so they could still be a while away. We don't really know what "Quite Soon" actually means, it could end up being tomorrow, a week or more.

Anyway…here's the latest teaser from their port radar:

"It's just a shot away"

Begin the guessing games! What do you think this be? Exciting! I'm sure these won't be the only titles this year too, let's see if they can truly surprise us.

Probably. I wasn't serious at all as all of us should be. Afterall, it's just gaming.
Yeah, yeah. I know.

But one can't say that we don't want to. Though I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't buy a Witcher 3 port, just out of boycott.

Yes, but... I don't dual boot for over 4 1/2 years now, but I still already own Skyrim. It's too old to port.
By Linux-only I meant literally Linux only. As in, not being able to play on Linux even if you had the windows version.
A version for each platform. Purchased separately.

Got no problem with that, your motives are your own, but when compared to all the games I played exclusively on Linux/SteamOS, since 2012, The Witcher 3 is the best game I ever played, by far. Just sad that I had to reinstall a Win7 drive to play it. Thing is, after having played my preferred games a couple of times each, and since I'm using my computer mainly for gaming, my rig was beginning to collect dust, at this point. I really like Shadow of Mordor, Mad Max, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, The Metros and Bioshock Infinite but at some point, it's not enough anymore.

Not against that idea if it helps AAA studios to consider à Linux release.

It's a line from Gimme Shelter I think, The Rolling Stones. Something to do with war. No idea other than that.
Hmmm, maybe "Fallout Shelter"?

Yeah, "Life Is Strange - Before the Storm" seems quite plausible, I think.

Fairly happy with that port, although there are certainly a rather large number of titles that I would have valued higher, this is still a game I would buy & play without any hesitation whatsoever.

Me neither; though one thing to keep in mind is that without almost complete feature & performance parity with windoze, Linux-only sales would end up generating quite a bit of resentment. Nowadays, Windows licences are nowhere as expensive as they used to be; if you're a student (at least in the US), they push the damn thing on you for free anyhow (that's how I got my several perpetual [not tied to student status; valid after graduation] licenses); and people getting their windoze pcs pre-built don't even realize that they're paying for the OEM license -- that being the case, being platform-locked *on the same hardware* that could run *the same game* better at little to no extra cost would be perceived as a pretty unfair deal, by someone who isn't already a Linux user/supporter for gaming-independent reasons.

I highly doubt Skyrim would come to Linux like this. Bethesda and id Software are beer buddies, we'd probably see Doom and Wolfenstein before arrows start hitting the knee.

My Guess is: A game by a company that has already worked with Feral before, take your pick.

ID Software moved away from Linux a while ago. I don't think their interest in Linux is any greater than Bethesda's itself, these days. And Beth's reluctance to release their games on our platform is of a borderline religious nature. Some of their games run pretty well in WINE and probably could be ported with minimal effort, but I think Beth needs a new CEO before they will consider it.

I recently read one of the most fascinating articles on Linux gaming from Timothee Besset that talks a lot about his first hand experience with iD and the internals of their Linux development, it wasn't a company political decision to move away from Linux, more that they lost key personnel and its internal champions that supported it.

The article is well worth a read I would say:

Yep! That's why I wrote IF. Sometimes, consequences are hard to predict.

Skyrim.

Why is this even a question?

Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll?

Arrow to the knee is a serious medical condition, you jerk!
Mohandevir Jan 29, 2018
Square Enix... Just Cause 3? That would be nice! Please Feral, put this one on your "To Do" list.
cRaZy-bisCuiT Jan 29, 2018
Obviously: "Warcraft IV - Before the storm"!
Scoopta Jan 29, 2018
Skyrim.

Why is this even a question?
I really really hope so.
Unshra Jan 29, 2018
I'm guessing Call of Duty, though as with all Feral teases I'm wishing it was Skyrim SE. :D

I hope it's Skyrim SE although somehow I doubt it's call of duty. I just don't feel like Activision would actually partner with them but maybe.

My money is on Before the Storm. Pretty happy with that, I enjoyed the first one.

I don't have a good game idea to mention but I'm interested in looking at alternative suggestions for the clues.

1. We know it is a Garibaldi biscuit. The Garibaldi biscuit was named after Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi. Possibly some useful info can be gleaned from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garibaldi_biscuit ( For instance, the first Garibaldi biscuit was manufactured in Bermondsey, London, UK by company 'Peek Freans' and the biscuit was created by 'Jonathan Carr'. The biscuit contains 'currants'. )

2. We know the song containing the lyric 'It's just a shot away' is 'Gimme Shelter' - but noting that band 'The Sisters of Mercy' also did this track as a cover of Rolling Stones' original. i.e. Rolling Stones may be relevant or Sisters of Mercy may be.

Here is some info about Giuseppe Garibaldi ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Garibaldi ).

Some of Giuseppe Garibaldi's great exploits brought him the reputation of "hero of two worlds".

Tempted to suggest "Two Worlds II" which was touted as coming to Linux would fit in with that name. (Probably not, though.)

Also, it might be that the 'Garibaldi' biscuit is actually being used to refer to a different 'Garibaldi' person (or thing), by Feral. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garibaldi_(disambiguation)

This info on the song 'Gimme Shelter' might be useful to uncover more clues:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimme_Shelter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimme_Shelter_(disambiguation)

Noting that 'Gimme Shelter' was opening track on 1969 album 'Let It Bleed' by the 'Rolling Stones'.
It is felt that some inspiration for the song might be the Vietnam war.

As another game suggestion: "Rising Storm 2: Vietnam" on Steam

But also, the song inspiration can also be people scurrying for shelter from a rain storm.
So another game suggestion: Life Is Strange: Before The Storm

But how do the 'Garibaldi' and 'Gimme Shelter' clues combined work out?

I loath guessing games. <.<

Guess what? Me, too! :-P

So if we have a storm of war coming couldn't the hero of two worlds not be the players in world of warcrafts upcoming Battle for Azeroth?

If it is a spoiled cracker, than it will be a post apocaliptic survival game.
