KING Art, developer of The Dwarves and The Book of Unwritten Tales are considering Kickstarter for their new RTS 'Iron Harvest' [Official Site] and they need feedback from a survey, with Linux as a platform option.

As for why they're thinking about Kickstarter, they said this:

At the moment, we are financing the Iron Harvest development out of our own pocket, but we won’t be able to finance the whole production. We’re thinking about doing a Kickstarter campaign to stay independent for as long as possible.

Take a look at a more recent video about the game:

RTS is probably my favourite genre, so I will be personally disappointed if they don't get it on Linux. As for what the teaser video shows, for a game that's not even close to being finished it really does look good.

I should note, they previously told us that the "Linux community is important to us", so it's good to see they haven't left Linux as a platform out of their survey. If you wish, you can fill out the survey linked here and tell them you want it on Linux.

Thanks for the tip Przemko!

Quoting: GuestThe linux community is important to them, but they never fixed the broken Book of unwritten tales… go figure.

I played through all three of those games, and don't recall any issues; what was broken for you?

On a side note, it's worth mentioning that these guys consistently deliver their Kickstarter projects on time, which is extremely rare! This game does look cool, but if the minimum pledge is ~$40, I'll probably pass... I have way too big of a backlog to fork out that much for a game I probably won't get around to for a long time. :-/

I filled it out, and a thorough survey it is. I haven't Kickstarted a game in quite a while; the only RTS game I funded was Planetary Annihilation:TITANS, after funding RPG games.

There have never been very many great Linux RTS games, and this does look as though it will be a good one.

In the meantime I did some research and also found out it's the same alternative world by the same artist.

Still it seems the gameplay will be completely different.

QuoteWe released most of our games for Linux and Mac. Nevertheless, at this point, we do not want to promise something we might not be able to deliver. On the technology side, Iron Harvest is much more complex than our other games, for example because of the multiplayer features. Therefore, we are going to evaluate Linux/Mac versions as soon as we take a look at the consoles.

Also, according to Reddit to them [f]or now "PC" means Windows 10 only, which smells quite like locking themselves into DX12 and/or Microsoft Store for UWP.
