Another year has passed and it's now nearing six years since the Carmageddon: Reincarnation Kickstarter that was supposed to have a Linux version. The developer said it is still coming, apparently.
Today, they've released Carmageddon: Max Damage (the revamp of Carmageddon: Reincarnation) on GOG, naturally they've had people query what's going on with the ridiculously overdue Linux version. They actually replied, with this:
Today we have finally released the DRM-free version, one of the many rewards promised in our Kickstarter campaign. We mentioned that the physical rewards are also still in the pipeline but failed to mention anything about the Mac and Linux versions.
We are still planning on releasing both Mac and Linux in the future, however we still do not have a timeline for the release. So please accept our apologies for the continual delay but we have not forgotten!
I'm well aware they haven't forgotten, they just don't really care enough at this point. "we have not forgotten" is exactly what they said nearly two years ago in 2016.
It got to the point where I actually had to block one of their team on Twitter for repeatedly trolling our Twitter account with pathetic anti-Linux comments. On top of that, they started jumping in on Tweets from us to other developers, to shit-post about Linux. I won't say who, or link to it, as I don't want a witchhunt, but safe to say they're one developer who I've probably been the least impressed with in a very long time.
I firmly expect this never to actually come to Linux, if it does I might die from shock. I'll be happy, as I won't ever turn a Linux game down, if the end result is good. I'm a gamer—I like good games, but that doesn't stop me from calling stuff like this out. Make an actual effort Stainless Games, stop giving empty thoughtless words.
Thanks for the tip, Bob.
Quoting: TheRiddickGame ran decent last time I tried it (at 4k) and their using Unity3D so there shouldn't be too many barriers to get it on Linux really.
No, they use their own engine called Beelzebub. And from memory, they wrote the main renderer using DirectX (apparently the back-end is generic so it's easy to plug a new renderer in place - from an old tweet to my old account).
Quoting: ElectricPrismAnyone who wants to play the old version could give it a go on GOG for free today.

TDR kind of sucked compared to the version prior to that. Carmageddon 2 I think?

Carmageddon 2 is the one I really liked. Had one of them on my phone for awhile, but like all mobile games, I got bored of it really fast...
*sighs*
Also played Quake at something like 12fps on that machine. Quake actually ran better than Carmageddon.

Quoting: Leopard2020 : It is still coming...
One thing to note ; i don't understand why they are referring releasing a GOG version as a reward?
People are buying it from there , you are not giving it away this game on there. You're just putting your build to another store ; at a price.
Reward term is irritating.
Well, probably because they offer, ZOOOMG, 75% off for it on GOG. Ats almost FREE (joke). And...they finally released PROMISED DRM-FREE version AFTER SIX YEARS??? This is that they call fulfilling promises?

Kickstarter backers get a GOG key as a reward. It's like four years late but at least they finally delivered that.
Yeah, but in very same time you can get this game on GOG for up to 75% off. This means, that if bakers didnt backed this game it would be not necessary for them to pay big price anyway. For example for CIS region its 1.64$ which is pretty much cheap, just a little more expensive then Carmageddon 2.

I am also disappoited, but shaming the editor won't help.
I've seen few reviews on gog being very negative and I think it's counter productive as well. It pressurize the editor in a bad and maybe the linux version will be bad as a result and they won't be making any new one.
We've seen what happened with Witcher 2, although we never got confirmation from CD Projekt, it may have impacted the fact that witcher 3 did not come on linux.
