Even though the Linux release of Insurgency: Sandstorm [Official Site] has been delayed, it's still coming and as an FPS fan I'm still quite excited. This new teaser trailer looks good too!

Considering New World Interactive support Linux with the original Insurgency and Day of Infamy, I fully expect them to eventually deliver on the Linux port of Sandstorm.
I wouldn't say Insurgency was bad looking, but Sandstorm certainly looks a lot more current (for lack of a better word right now). One of my major hopes is that they keep the player vs AI combat and not go full PvP, as that's one of the fun elements of Insurgency, although a better AI would be great too.
Are you excited for it? I sure am. I'm still sad the campaign was shelved for now, but if the multiplayer is good then it will be another welcome addition to my gaming library.
Regarding BattleEye, I'm not certain on the privacy implications from a technical perspective, but if you feel strongly about it, you might want to consider firejailing your entire Steam install. That way, you can have confidence that even if an update introduces BattleEye, the only thing it can scan are the game files in your Steam directory, which hopefully you'd feel less strongly about.
Thanks for the update.
Quoting: scaineWow, I didn't know about any of this. Insurgency, despite being one of my most-played games, is a game I dip into rarely these days.
Battleye is a ongoing debate with tons of people vehemently attacking anyone who says it's a privacy issue. From what I have read Battleye IS a privacy issue. The documents I could find on how it works basically says it scans all your drives for file and file contents and reports back to home. This also means any NEW drives that might come online after launch. So even if there is nothing found when you launch the game it will keep watching incase you mount a new drive or toss in a flash drive because you know it might have the cheats on it. Scanning scanning scanning.
I think I'll look into firejail myself after reading this! Pretty horrible, if it works the way you're suggesting. There must be a performance hit too!

Thanks for pointing this out.
I must admit that I didn’t pay much attention to it before. I wasn’t even aware of BattlEye, or maybe I read about it in an announcement but didn’t care because I thought “naw, don’t need that”, not knowing what it is and what it does. But now that I looked into it I must say that I find the whole affair quite worrying.
To be fair, what BattlEye does isn’t anything unusual but pretty much what almost any other anti-cheat program does, e.g. PunkBuster (and I’m sure VAC isn’t any different). But that doesn’t make it any better. It is alarming how these programs work and what they do with regards to privacy.
I’ve been using Steam only with a dedicated and separate user anyway, because I already don’t trust Steam. But after checking up on BattlEye I went one step further and put Steam in a jail. However, I have lost all interest now in online gaming and turned my attention back to playing single player games.
As for the new trailer:
Quoting: Guest[…]I think it's a super cut of campaign cut scenes that won't have anything to do with the real game.
My thought exactly. (They already announced that the campaign is postponed until further noticed.)
