While searching for other farming sims while covering Cattle and Crops, I ended up coming across Fantasy Farming: Orange Season [Steam, Official Site, itch.io] and it just recently added Linux support. It's being developed by Hudell Tales, which is made up of a single developer.

Note: It's currently in Early Access so it's not finished—expect bugs.

Fantasy Farming: Orange Season has a big focus on exploration, with over one hundred hand-drawn areas to discover and explore. There's multiple towns, each with their own theme and plenty of characters to meet. You can raise animals, grow crops, customize your farm and there's plenty on the roadmap for future development.

The developer throws in the game source code if you purchase it too. They say it's "Open Source", but I haven't been able to find a repository for it anywhere to see about licensing. They likely mean the code is open, not that it's open source. I know a fair few of our readers get a bit anal if I don't get that correct…
Update: They have since corrected it on Steam to say "Open Code"

You might think it sounds a bit like Stardew Valley, well, the developer says "Orange Season was already in development long before Stardew Valley launched. Harvest Moon and Rune Factory were much bigger influences than SV.".

You can buy it on itch.io and Steam.

Apparently, we get *all* the farming games this week! And I'm okay with that! :D

On Steam store, it actually says "Open Code", not open source. And they also say that it's ok to be used for modding purposes. Which is not -quite- open source, but still above and beyond of what close to 100% of all game developers do, who habitually tend to faint if you dare asking for the source code of games they stopped selling 20 years go.

And the game looks fairly interesting, too!

I'm pretty sure they must have seen this article, it did say Open Source until after I posted this. It also still says it on itch.io and checking history of the page (wayback machine and others) it did say Open Source.

So I guess they read what I said :P

Edit: They "liked" our Tweet about it, so I assume they did read it, good to see it corrected though :)

Just bought Fantasy Farming: Orange Season. Looks like a game me and my kids will enjoy. I also totally like them being on itch.io with open code.

Buying it because Stardew Valley is cool, but I wish it had more than one town. Actually, it's a neat game on Linux, therefore I must have it.

I was just thinking the same thing! Now here's hoping there'll be a modern SimFarm remake tomorrow. :D

Gotta admit, I really appreciate the fact that they respect the difference enough to change it. :)

Farming games season here I see.

It's worth mentioning this one was developed with RPG Maker.

Me too! But it's kinda unlikely that we will get "My time at Portia" and "Staxel" :(

The game music makes me want to die. I am curious if there is room in the market for 2 SNES style farming games -- SDV is the most perfect I have seen it since Harvest Moon on SNES.
