Heroes of Hammerwatch [GOG, Steam], a rogue-lite action-adventure from Crackshell releases on March 1st and they've just put up a shiny new trailer.

Previously, Crackshell developed Serious Sam's Bogus Detour and Hammerwatch, both of which support Linux, so they're yet another developer to continue pushing out awesome Linux games. They've confirmed to me on Twitter Linux will see same-day support.

It does look pretty good, the action especially looks like it gets quite intense. With the ability to play solo, local co-op and online multiplayer it's probably going to be pretty fun to take a look at.

Features:

  • Procedurally generated content: Random generated levels offers a high replay value and will bring you a new challenge with each run.
  • Persistant progression: Your heroes will retain the experience gained from a run, and will become more powerful as they level up.
  • Town upgrades: Construct/Upgrade 10 different buildings that will help your heroes in various ways.
  • Classes: Choose from 7 different classes, all with unique stats, abilities and playstyles.
  • Items: Find or buy over 100 unique items of various rarity.
  • Co-op: Play with up to 3 friends in co-op.
  • New Game+: Heroes of Hammerwatch will be a real challenge, and even if you beat it, the challenge never ends!

This looks superb. Like a Hammerwatch take on Hero Siege. If only I hadn't just bought Vaporum...!

Quoting: GuestI'm weary of this game myself

One of the developers, known as "scratch" worked on another game, Serious Sam Revolution, and had abandoned it long ago, and is stuck in Early Access hell

I would not call 3 years since release stuck in early access hell. Plus Hammerwatch shipped just fine so has Serious Sam's Bogus Detour, the developer seems to be able to ship games just fine.

That's what I thought exactly. Both mentioned games are awesome, so this is a natural buy for me. But I will wait, cause I just bought the Hero Siege DLCs and need to finish them before. Also the new Diablo 3 Season just started, which takes some time to finish. So many games, so little time :D

Hammerwatch remains one of my all time favorites, it runs in a microwave and plays greatly. Getting my friend to Coop it together was a no go though, she hates pixel graphics :D

GOG Linux support on day 1 so I will be picking this at release.

I just can't Diablo 3... that game is the most boring I've ever played. I was initially playing it on the PS4, and with the necromancer... I just stand in place and push a button until all the things are dead, then move to the next area. I've only died three times in that game, and we've beaten the first main story, just not the expansion. First time I died was because a friend on my list was killed by some creature that was in the 50-60 level range (I was 30th at the time), apparently it just dumps them into your game so you have a chance to act revenge?

Second and third time was because I set my controller down without pausing the game while my brother played, so I could make some coffee..
