Tangledeep [GOG, Steam] is now ready for the masses, as it's officially left Early Access. This roguelike is not just pretty, it's also very welcoming to new players.

I picked it up again recently and was instantly hooked all over again. Such beautiful presentation, blended together with some challenging and rewarding gameplay.
About the game:
Tangledeep combines the 16-bit graphics and polish of classic SNES-era RPGs with elements from roguelikes and dungeon crawlers to create a magical experience for players of all skill levels. Trapped in underground villages with no memory of the world at the surface, you must survive an ever-changing labyrinth to discover what lies above. Experience rich, tactical, turn-based gameplay as you explore a sprawling dungeon that’s different each time you play. Tangledeep features a customizable job system and hundreds of collectable items that allow you to approach each playthrough in a totally new way!
What makes it welcoming isn't just the fact that the UI is clean and clear, or that it looks pleasing graphically. No, the real reason it's so welcoming is the different game modes you can choose. A Heroic Mode, which features permadeath although banked goods and town progress are saved. There's also the Adventure Mode, where you respawn when you die but you do lose some money and XP and also a Hardcore Mode with has no progression on death for the biggest challenge.
I haven't encountered any issues with the Linux version, it's flawless for me. It also feels pretty damn good with the Steam Controller, so you can kick-back and relax. If you're a roguelike fan, it's a must have.

If so then i am on-board.
Played for a few hours, still undecided what my opinion is. On the one hand, the game seems to have lots of options, many different classes, different skills and plenty of reasonably interesting stuff to do.
On the other hand, I'm less than impressed with the combat this far (which seems to be the main element of the game) it seems way to simplistic to be entertaining, however that may be because I still haven't explored many options for how to use the different skills, spells and stuff to make it more interesting.
I suppose only time will tell, but at this price level I fell it will not take much more entertainment before I feel I have gotten my moneys worth in any case.
EDIT: Having played a couple of hours more, I can now say that the combat *does* get more interesting with time. Playing as a "Floramancer" lets you mess around with many inventive spells and abilities and the enemies start gaining more special abilities as well. Definitly worth my money. :-)
