Many asked, now Feral Interactive have answered. Rise of the Tomb Raider [Steam] is officially on the way to Linux! What a fantastic way to start a Tuesday with news like this! It still amazes me to this day that Linux will have games like this, very happy with the news!

Feral aren't saying exactly when it will arrive, but they had a tweet out that said "This Winter" which has since been deleted (Edit: replaced with this one). You can see the official confirmation on their official site which now says "This spring", so it could be here sometime between March and late June.

The advantage of getting a game later than Windows, is we get the 20 Year Celebration edition which has all the DLC.

For those wondering, it will indeed use Vulkan on Linux! This is confirmed at the bottom of the Features page on the mini-site.

Here's the trailer Feral put up:

The game has been loved by reviewers and users alike, so it looks like it will be a solid hit for Linux gamers after more Lara. It takes the first game and makes nearly all aspects of it bigger and better than before, including more actual Tombs.

It seems this is the game that has replaced the previous Linux port teaser of "O VAIN ILLUSION OF GLORY AND GRANDEUR" that was put up back in October of last year. We still have to discover the game behind the "It's just a shot away" teaser that was put up in January, so there's more on the way remember!

I’m very happy for you all, sadly I’m still arkoholic and I’am waiting for a substitute or an improvement of it..

Admitting is the first step, so congratulations. In general, I find substitution therapy ineffective, though. RotT might be just what you need; something different ;)

Good to see Square Enix is still committed! After not seeing anything from them making its way to Linux for a while, I was getting worried!

I wish using seasons to state dates wasn't a thing for international products. Winter here is the middle of the year.

Excellent news. However, am I the only person who does not understand how the clue "O VAIN ILLUSION OF GLORY AND GRANDEUR" refers to "Rise of the Tomb Raider"?

I can play all of the old tomb raider games on Linux using Wine, except I can't get GoG Tomb Raider III to start at all (tried several versions of Wine and all the WineHQ tips). Anybody have any work around for Ubuntu 16.04 (actually Mint 18.3 and NVidia)? Does it play well under VirtualBox or similar?

Since the game has a VR version I wonder if the Linux Vulkan version is getting ship shape for VR.

Looking forward to some Twitch Streams of this and some play. Glad Feral is pumping things through the pipeline I want to buy.

Hell yes, Been waiting forever to play this game. I will buy direct from feral store once released.

Thank you to Feral/Square Enix for bringing the next game in the franchise to us Linux folks. Cannot wait to see what other games you are working on.

The other yet to be announced Linux game on the feral radar, Call Of Duty perhaps?

I get very confused when that's done as well. Most annoying. I don't get what's wrong with using good old fashioned Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4.

... well, not as old fashioned as spring or fall by a margin of several thousand years, I figure.
Anorelsan Feb 13, 2018
Thanks Feral! I will buy it, you made a great job with the first one! Now waiting for Dark Souls :D

I already have it on my Steam Windows account.... I'm gonna buy it again for my Steam Linux account...

This is probably a great sign because it means the original Tomb Raider port was successful. Though the pessimist in me says they were paid to port to Mac, and the Linux version isn't much extra.

However, I do wish they'd try to get ports out sooner to the Windows launch. Surely they would make far more money that way. Since it looks like they're interested in porting Tomb Raider, I do hope Shadow of the Tomb Raider port happens more quickly. Only if you launch day one can you know the true Linux gaming market.
