Many asked, now Feral Interactive have answered. Rise of the Tomb Raider [Steam] is officially on the way to Linux! What a fantastic way to start a Tuesday with news like this! It still amazes me to this day that Linux will have games like this, very happy with the news!

Feral aren't saying exactly when it will arrive, but they had a tweet out that said "This Winter" which has since been deleted (Edit: replaced with this one). You can see the official confirmation on their official site which now says "This spring", so it could be here sometime between March and late June.

The advantage of getting a game later than Windows, is we get the 20 Year Celebration edition which has all the DLC.

For those wondering, it will indeed use Vulkan on Linux! This is confirmed at the bottom of the Features page on the mini-site.

Here's the trailer Feral put up:

The game has been loved by reviewers and users alike, so it looks like it will be a solid hit for Linux gamers after more Lara. It takes the first game and makes nearly all aspects of it bigger and better than before, including more actual Tombs.

It seems this is the game that has replaced the previous Linux port teaser of "O VAIN ILLUSION OF GLORY AND GRANDEUR" that was put up back in October of last year. We still have to discover the game behind the "It's just a shot away" teaser that was put up in January, so there's more on the way remember!

Are you hyped? Let us know in the comments.

This is probably a great sign because it means the original Tomb Raider port was successful. Though the pessimist in me says they were paid to port to Mac, and the Linux version isn't much extra.

Doubt it as for OSX they have to use a different API. If they are doing this job, definitely they expect to get some profit.

Yeehaw! A friend of mine gave me this game on Steam and I haven't installed it yet, hoping it would come to Linux. It's happening!

So to get this right

If I want to support Feral, I can only do so by buying the game directly from their website?

They will get money when you buy it for Linux on a "proper" store (like Steam, GoG and some others), but that will be deducted by some shop share (Steam's is said to be 30%). Buying at their store would be optimal. You're getting a Steam key there.

Nice!

I already have this game in my Steam library (from a bundle? Humble Monthly?), but I'm confused about what exactly I have there.

The DLCs are not marked as owned, so I don't have the "20 Year Celebration" edition, I guess? So I'd still need to buy the season pass? Does this include the "Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration Pack" one? Grrr...

In short, what exactly do I need to buy to have everything?

I think that would be Season Pass and Celebration Pack. Not 100% sure.

Nice, let's work on Shadow of War now Feral :-P ^^

No thanks. We don't need lootboxes, and other extras in a single player game. Also it is just not a good game. :(

One youtuber I watch made a pretty interesting argument about Shadow of War. He was trying to decide whether loot boxes had ruined the game by introducing an excessive grind. And he eventually decided that what was wrong with the game could not even be fixed by spending money. They simply failed to make the late game interesting enough to want to keep playing. Sad really.

I'm not much of an FPS or Action Adventure player. But I can see there is a huge demand, a lot of people really looking forward to this.

Cool stuff, it's a AAA coming to Linux, and again thanks to Feral.

Will definitely buy this! Thank you very much Feral :D

The first part got an offer (50%):
https://store.feralinteractive.com/de/offers/#offer_382

I found it surprsingly good.
I wasn't "spoiled" by playing earlier Lara Croft games though, so my expectations were... "open".

Fantastic news, I love Feral! now I hope for the seven the days long gone ... And Metro exodus ....
FredO Feb 14, 2018
Great NEWS! So we know in future if cookies are not an option for pushing to get a game on Linux, just give them the "Most anticipated game" award, and things start to happen.

I'm absolutely like that cow, you know the one in the nursery rhyme? Over the moon. Well done Feral Interactive I already own the game but shall be donating the full price of this game to you fabulous people. Thank you so much. The only other Windows game we need on Linux now, well for me anyway is GTA5, but I cannot see that happening at all.

When I played this on Windows 10 about a month ago it crashed big time, processor which is an AMD A10-5800K APU Quad core got way too hot, but then again Windows runs way too many things in the background, plus it takes the whole OS into running one simple thing. So really looking forward to the port, so I can finally nearly say bye, bye Windows for good. I do not have Windows installed anymore, simply because Linux is getting so good now.
fabertawe Feb 14, 2018
A bit late to the "me too" party but anyway... yes please! I'll be picking this up on release from the Feral store.

I'm hoping vulkan will mean an end to their "we only officially support nVidia cards" stance that they've had on some of their titles because I WANT THIS GAME. XD

I know that it has not been always the case but all games ported by Feral work on AMD now, no? (with recent versions of MESA and despite what some of the Steam requirements indicate) The problem wasn't really Vulkan (or OpenGL version) but more on the availability of drivers (from AMD or Open Source) versions supporting it (or OpenGL > 3) in most distributions (and SteamOS mainly). Feral contribute to MESA development since some time now... :S:
