Not that it really means all that much for us, but interesting nonetheless, THQ Nordic has acquired Koch Media GmbH.
Naturally, the announcements contain a lot of legal-speak, but some of it is quite interesting. THQ Nordic have actually put out a few Linux games like the revamp of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, the updated Imperium Galactica II and the RPG Silver. They're also the publisher of games that support Linux like The Book of Unwritten Tales, This Is the Police, The Dwarves and a bunch more.
This also means that THQ Nordic also now own Deep Silver, so they now gain Dead Island, Metro, Saints Row, Risen, Homefront and plenty more with that too.
Hopefully THQ Nordic will remain somewhat Linux friendly, since they now essentially control some pretty big names it will be interesting to see if they push for any more games on Linux.
You can see the announcement on the Koch Media site here, with more info here as well.
What do you think to this?
Thanks for the tip, micha!
Quoting: Purple Library GuyI know nothing about the specifics. However, one thing that's certain is that the Koch brothers are assholes. So all else being equal, things relevant to us not being owned by them should be a good thing.
Koch Media(1) is not owned or founded by any Koch brothers. I guess you're confusing this with Koch Industries(2)?
(1) a not too big German media company, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Media
(2) an big US corporation, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

Quoting: GustyGhostLast I heard THQ went out of business. THQ Nordic is some sort of spin off from them I take it?
If I understand it right, Koch as well as Nordic Games bought some franchises from former THQ (America). Nordic Games also bought the THQ trademark and became THQ Nordic - and now buys Koch. So, it could be seen as sort of reunification?

"THQ Nordic and Koch Media/Deep Silver will continue to operate as two separate entities under the publicly listed entity, THQ Nordic AB. Each company will have full operational focus on delivering each of its own business plans over the coming years. No restructuring, change in headcount or change in relationship with their business partners are planned. Synergies such as partnerships from both groups’ IPs, assets and development capacity, further distribution power will be reviewed going forward. Both entities will have a pro-active acquisition agenda along with the parent company’s growth strategy."
If they really stick to that, everything should carry on just fine. Always hard to predict the future, though.
Edit: Quote was too long and the system hid it, so I have used regular quotation marks.

THQ Nordic has bought Koch Media/Deep Silver, where Deep Silver is currently acting as a publisher of Warhorse Studios, who have released the Kingdom Come: Deliverance game just about 24hrs ago (Feb 13th)...
The release is - so far - reported to be quite a huge success (for the current SteamDB numbers: please note the game covers more platforms that just Steam; it also covers PS4 and XB1).
So, is this just a coincidence?
Edit: Adding game release date for later reference.

Quoting: EikeAh, thank you for the clarification. Yes, I was (well, I was assuming that Koch Industries had lots of little subsidiaries of various sorts, which it may but clearly not that one).Quoting: Purple Library GuyI know nothing about the specifics. Quoting: Purple Library GuyI was assuming that Koch Industries had lots of little subsidiaries of various sorts, which it may but clearly not that one.I would be careful with associating everything on the planet named "Koch" with the american industrialists. It is just a German family name. Lots of people share it and I am sure would be horrified to be associated with the Koch brothers.
Just pray that some jerk that shares your last name doesn't become a notorious dictator! Snap judgements by association are common but ultimately unfair.
Koch Media also owns titles like Fortnite and Micro Machines. They also co-published the X games series with Egosoft.
