A little late, but better late than never. Feral Interactive have pushed out an updated build of XCOM 2 [Steam] for Linux. There's also now the XCOM 2 Collection you can buy.

The Linux update, pulls in the "Fall 2017" update, as well as the minor update from December. There's quite a lot of changes from the Fall 2017 update, a lot of it being tweaks to existing features and bug fixes to hopefully give you a better game. Far too much to go over in great detail right now, since it makes changes to the Strategy Layer, the Tactical Layer and the Challenge Mode.

Firaxis also just announced the XCOM 2 Collection edition, which gives you the huge War of the Chosen expansion, plus four DLC packs and it makes for a rather good deal for those of you just picking it up.

Absolutely one of my all time favourite strategy games, do grab it if you still haven't. The newer XCOM 2 Collection is on sale with 50% off and the normal XCOM 2 is also on sale with 67% off. The sales end in approximately two days.

Haven't had any update yet seeing through my update history on Steam. Is that being rolled out today?
I got the update today 6 hours ago after I stopped playing it, so it should be out.

Still no update for me. What's this, some kind of lottery? Or was the update only to the DLCs? Because then it's clear why I haven't got any update yet.

It's a great Linux game, and pretty good for a game based off the unstable linux support in the Unreal engine. Kinda due for a XCOM3 release really, and I'm pretty sure given the ending of XCOM2 its going to be Terror From The Deep reboot, which would be nice because it introduces a whole need playing field with new weapons and environments.

I just hope they don't ditch surface based missions also, like on oil rigs and ports etc...

I'm very confident the update was about the AMD issues for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen that I've been going back and forth with them about for a few weeks now. Their devs discovered my crash was due to "export MESA_NO_ERROR=1" in an environment configuration bash file. After finding the workaround for me, they told me they'd work on a patch to fix that problem for everybody; this is probably that patch.

I'm on the "no patch yet" list as well, perhaps it's been staggered so the servers don't crash?

Yup, correct, it has that fix - For what it's worth Mesa had the bug report here a while back, the fix had been live but had to be reversed due to unrelated complications.

The patch does also have many other fixes though, including changes to be in sync with the Windows updates.

Looking at your link it would seem the patch is only for people with War of the Chosen & the rest of us stay as we are, unless I'm misreading it.

Update: I asked about the patch on the steam forum & Feral clarified that it is only for people who have the War of the Chosen DLC.

Feral? Wasn't this ported by Aspyr? *confused

Nope, it's definitely a Feral port.

You can see directly on Steam in the developer/publisher info who did it :)

A bit late to the XCOM party but anyway... ^_^ ...thought I'd post here rather than start a new thread, hope that's ok.

Only recently I played my first turn based game - Steamworld Heist and really enjoyed it. So looking through my vast collection of unplayed games I thought I'd try another turn based game, this being XCOM (1). Although a lot more complicated than Steamworld Heist I'm really getting into it and I'm probably about half way through and already thinking ahead to XCOM 2.

Now the thing is, I went straight into "Enemy Within" skipping "Enemy Unknown" as I'd read it was what "the original should have been". So my question is, should I jump straight into "War Of The Chosen" or play XCOM 2 vanilla first? Also, as it's "The Collection" should I play with all DLC activated from the start? Is there any benefit to playing in some sort of order?

Many thanks!

Ask yourself this: when after finishing a campaign of maybe 40 or 50 hours, will you have the time and drive to do it a second time?

Quite possibly! If I really like a game I can put in a lot of hours. If it's a case of repeating the same things but far more enjoyably (if I start the first time with WOTC) then I'd rather repeat it "more enjoyably" too. I suppose it's a case of whether WOTC is a different, additional experience or whether it's just an upgrade on vanilla.

I suspect you're advocating starting with WOTC ;)

Edit: I've read up and get the impression some (most) of the other DLC is just fluff or even just annoying - as in the case of "Alien Hunters".

Technically I can't because I haven't tried WotC myself yet because I'm well into the base game.

I started with regular XCOM and never did Enemy Within due to lack of time. So for me it probably would have been better to start with the expansion immediately. But everybody has their own way.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll start a vanilla game then shortly after start a new WOTC game, compare the two and take it from there. Either way (or both) it should be fun!
