BROKE PROTOCOL [Steam], a low-poly open-world action game that's a little like GTA Online and it's coming to Linux.

It's come a long way since it was posted (in terms of extra content), but their original trailer gives you a good look at the game:

I sent the developer a message on Twitter, asking about Linux support and here's what they said:

Indeed Broke Protocol is already supported by a Linux server (free) and working on getting the client there too :)

As it turns out, it even mentions that a Linux client is coming on the Steam page, if you expand the description and scroll a bit. Nice to see they're confident enough to do that!

Features:

  • Supports up to 255 online players per server!
  • Wide open and continuously expanding city with suburbs, market, prison, marina, and airport
  • Hundreds of AI citizens, police, firefighters, paramedics, and criminals roaming the city streets
  • 3D Positional VOIP to talk with other players near you
  • Take on any job yourself to bring order and justice to the streets
  • Enterable interiors with staff, guards, and shopping areas
  • Dozens of usable weapons, guns, tazers, grenades, flashbangs, smokes, seeds, drugs, and handcuffs
  • Ownable homes/apartments and gangs/territory system
  • Usable vehicles and aircraft, with boats and motorcycles coming soon

It actually reminds me somewhat of Voxel Turf, which already supports Linux. Although BROKE PROTOCOL seems to focus less on the crafting side of it and more on direct action which could be interesting.

Thanks for the handy Discord tip, Mr_SquarePeg!

This looks like it could be quite a lot of fun.

Hmm gameplay seems to focus on the criminals.
Do they want to make this a cops versus robbers game or a free for all ?

I any case looks fun.

I love how the void gets filled on Linux. No Gta 5 but we have a cops and robbers game after all. (not the same thing i know , but in concept at least)

I consider the Saints Row series to be the closest commercial thing we have to GTA right now.

Well , i don't care about these games also but i don't write about them neither. I suggest you to do the same.

Looks cool. We need more games like this. This could turn out to be a hit in the Linux gaming community.

Nice!

In GTA V, back in the day, on my X360, I spent a lot of time just riding my motorcycle like a maniac; especially off-road. Zooming along ridge-lines at full speed, going up and down the cliffs of Mt. Chilliad, taunting and outrunning car-driving players, I loved the soaring, roaring, fourth-gear freedom, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it.

I'm looking forward to whatever action this game has to offer.

Money for nothing and chicks for free... low poly blockheads always remind me of that video. :)

Hmm , I knew it had single player. Does it have a comparable multi player ? Then i stand corrected.

They have online co-op mode but nothing like GTA online.
