Life is Strange: Before the Storm [Steam], the standalone story adventure set three years before the original is officially heading to Linux! Feral Interactive have today announced that it will arrive sometime this Spring.

Feral Interactive ported the original Life is Strange episodes to Linux, so I’m not surprised they’re teaming up again to bring Before the Storm to Linux. I think they did a very good job of the port before and I certainly enjoyed it a lot. Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Deluxe Edition for Linux will include all three episodes along with the bonus episode, "Farewell".

This standalone prequel isn’t actually made by the originally developer Dontnod, instead the the publisher picked Deck Nine.

“With its tough yet vulnerable protagonist, Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a poignant evocation of teenage life,” said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive. “The atmospheric soundtrack, sharp writing and captivating story combine to create an engrossing and moving game, and we very are excited for macOS and Linux players to experience it.”

Feral said that pricing and system requirements will be confirmed closer to release. You can see the official news post over on the Feral Interactive site. They also now have a mini-site set up for it with a few more details.

This is the third confirmed port from Feral Interactive for Linux this year, so we will have: Total War: THRONES OF BRITANNIARise of the Tomb Raider and now this as well!

Will you be grabbing a copy when it releases for Linux? Exciting times!

Will update the article later with any more information once the official press stuff has been sent out to us.

Never played a game like LiS, will buy the new one asap.

It's better to play the original LiS first though.

Edit: Oh, wait... Now I see what you meant :p

Vague phrasing by myself, can indeed be misinterpreted.

There was no game played by me beforehand, (that was as story rich, meaningful and had a similar emotional impact,)...

I don't understand Life is Strange, or rather I don't understand why its so praised. I went to an Oregon university, I don't understand why anyone would want to experience that virtually with all the worst aspects of it magnified.

Because the game lets you break out?
(Or because it was decades ago?)

so this was the game on their radar...
i wonder if the pool to decide what to port next was an waste of time, or if they will really start to porting one of the voted ones as soon as they are close to deliver those who they were already working on.

I loved the original one. Never got to give Feral money for it as I bought and beat it before I switched to Linux. I'll be buying this day 1 if I have the money. Thank you Feral !

Many times the dialogue is nonsensical.
So they're trying to be more realistic this time?

Loved the 1st game and have been keeping an eye on the prequel ever since it came out. So glad to see it is coming to Linux, thank you Feral!

The first episode works well with Wine since several release.
I will buy this one too, instantbuy for me.

Really? Last time I tried the characters were invisible which makes it completely unplayable. Glancing at winehq-appdb it seems this issue is still present.

Sorry, I confused with Longest Journey first game.

AFAIK, Before the Storm was built on Unity. Is this a fully native version built with Unity, or does it use Feral's wrapper?
Life is strange is UE3 Not unity.

EDIT: I take that back XD. There's no delete comment but yeah...you're right. The original is UE3 not before the storm.

Something I'm finding interesting about Rise of the Tomb Raider and Life is Strange: Before the Storm -

Square Enix are currently running Sales on Humble with substantial discounts across most of their games. Now I'm presuming if one bought the game now (and don't activate the Steam key until the Linux version is out), then it would still count as a Windows sale (and Feral lose out).

But also, some of these discounted games are already showing Linux icon on Humble, announcing they are coming to Linux, even though the game is not released on Steam for Linux yet.

Check the Linux icon on this:
https://www.humblebundle.com/store/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-20-year-celebration

It wouldn't surprise me if the Square Enix Humble sale ends and then the Linux releases are made available.

Two possibilities:
*The webmaster of Humblebundle made a huge mistake about Rise of the Tomb Raider.
*Feral is lying in their Feral Radar UFO thing and the game indeed is really close to be released.

My feeling is more along the lines of this: Square Enix are trying to squeeze out as many "Windows" Sales as they can (including to the Linux community) before the official "Linux" offering goes out.

If that's the case then that sucks. Hopefully it's not. One way to deal with this would be to just give the dev no money on humble. It sucks for Feral but who knows if they'd see anything from it anyway and the point of humble is charity not the devs.

EDIT: For the love of God I need to stop opening my mouth before looking stuff up. You're talking about sales on the store not a bundle. Don't mind me. I do find it funny how I did this twice on one post.

I guess I'll have to be the honest one. I absolutely love LIS but this game falls very short of it. As I said on my steam review, if you only liked the first one due to the lesbian innuendo then you will probably like this one. If you liked the first one for the story, characters etc then this one will probably disappoint. Seriously, there is not one thing about this game that is even close to being as good as LIS. Even Chloe's walk looks odd. Many times the dialogue is nonsensical.

I agree this falls short of the first release. Its shorter, less engaging, and not as well written as the first. This was a bit of a disappointment, however as a huge fan of LIS I thought it was worth while to spend some more time in that world. If you liked the first game there's a good chance you'll like this, just keep your expectations in check.

Yaay, it moved into the "very soon" sector of the port radar now :)
