I do love a good success story. Starmancer [Kickstarter, Official Site], the space station sim inspired by Dwarf Fortress has been successfully fully funded and it's coming to Linux.

In the end, they were just short of the $140K stretch goal for the Xeno content expansion, with $139,695 in total they said it's "close enough" so they will do it anyway—fantastic! Considering their initial goal was only $40K, it's pleasing to see that Kickstarter is still going strong for some indies.

This is one I personally funded, given they had a fully working Linux demo and the developer is a Linux fan (see the bottom quote here). It was a game I couldn't pass up on helping to achieve their goal.

For those interested, the demo is still available here. As for the actual release, they're planning Alpha builds in approximately two months which will have a first-pass on a proper UI and the Beta builds will be a good few months after that. The final release will likely be early next year.

I am also a backer. It looked too cool not to buy!
I'm curious what exactly is meant by "Dwarf Fortress inspired." My favorite aspect of DF is the rich fictional history of the world and the procedurally generated stories in adventure mode. A lot of games that are "inspired by" Dwarf Fortress don't have that. Minecraft, for example, has essentially no generated story or characters. I like all the procedurally generated terrain and enviroments in Minecraft, but what I really want is another game with DF-esk world story/history/character generation that is somewhat easier to play than DF itself.
