The tactical RPG with great art and music was less-than-stellar in many other areas when it launched last month. It has received its biggest post-launch update so far and it tries to redress a lot of areas of criticism.

Ash of Gods [Official Site], as I noted in my original review, was something of a mixed bag. It had a lot of things that I enjoyed such as striking visuals and audio, an interesting plot and world-building but it stumbled in many other areas. Uneven difficulty as well as incredibly awkward prose and translation made it hard to get really engaged and often understand what the choices you were making truly are supposed to mean. Two innocuous-looking choices that looked the same could mean the difference between upsetting someone or gaining their loyalty, for example.
The 1.1 update incorporates feedback from players about many of these issues and you can expect reworked text and tweaks to combat including more granular difficulty. Here’s a few choice excerpts from the patch notes:
- Added a setting of the Reaping (difficulty) in the main menu.
- Added a displayed numeric value for the level of morale.
- Fixed the logic for the dialogue on Druket’s death.
- Fixed the issue with same random events happening several times on the way to the Marsh Watch and Triple Menhir.
- Fixed odd language and tone errors in the English translation in Thorn’s and Hopper’s storylines in Ursus, Marsh Watch, Firga, White Tower
- Fixed various typos and textual errors in various languages.
The developers have stated that they are committed to improving the game and will be working on several other features of future updates. More quality of life things like adjusting the dynamic camera as well as content for multiplayer will be added over time. What I’m most interested in, however, is the “postmortem” that they claim to have written for after the final video, which I interpret as an epilogue for the game. This is sorely needed as there was little to no closure for the diverse cast of characters and the story overall. It’ll be interesting to see how the game looks and feels out after all this polishing is finally done.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.
