Need a new FPS shooter? Murnatan [Steam, Official Site] released into Early Access on Steam recently. This free to play FPS is quite a lot like Natural Selection and Tremulous.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, the initial release suffered a few Linux issues like no download, then no mouse cursor and so on which have thankfully now been patched, so I was able to actually get into a game and test it.

Each side is quite different of course in terms of abilities and weaponry available. Humans preferring their precious guns, while the aliens use their teeth and claws to eat you alive. Gameplay is based on three stages of development, the more you kill the higher stage your team will reach enabling you to pick more powerful weaponry or alien class.

It does feel quite rough and it's a fair bit faster than Natural Selection 2, with a much more arcade like feel to it and it's free so what do you have to lose?

I will be interested to watch this one develop, as they have all the basics down they just need to keep polishing it. It certainly loads a lot quicker than Natural Selection 2, which feels like I suddenly age every time I try to play it.

Natural selection anyone

Gave it a quick go, runs fairly well, locked to 60FPS though. Need work but has potential

One to keep an eye on though.

Odd, judging with Steam Store page, pretty much everything looks identical to Natural Selection 2. It almost smells like a deliberate choice to make it look like Natural Selection 2. Although the game is F2P, NS2 already has an established, active but not so huge playerbase whose daily peak is around 350 players. So the demand wouldn't be overwhelming.

The developer seems to be small East European team. I hope they consider this a project to improve themselves.

I'm sad to say that seeing UE4 actually makes my heart sink a bit. So many games being plagued by the same old Linux-only bugs that have been in the engine since its release. I really want to like UE4, but it's kind of hard some times.
The game looks pretty interesting though, so I'll probably check it out.
