The moment many have been waiting for, Feral Interactive have just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider for Linux will release tomorrow, April 19th. As a reminder, this title will be using Vulkan.
I honestly haven't felt this hyped up for quite some time! April is turning out to be a damn fun month for Linux gaming.
Here's what Feral sent along for the official system requirements:
Minimum
OS: Ubuntu 17.10
Processor: Intel Core i3-4130T or AMD equivalent
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: 2GB AMD R9 285 (GCN 3rd Gen and above), 2GB Nvidia GTX 680 or better
Storage: 28 GB available space
Recommended
OS: Ubuntu 17.10
Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K
Memory: 12 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 980Ti
Storage: 28 GB available space
For NVIDIA GPU users, you will need the latest 396.18 beta driver at a minimum. For AMD GPU users, you will need Mesa 17.3.5, although if you're on Vega you will need Mesa 18.0 or later. AMD GCN 1st and 2nd generation graphics cards are not supported, Intel GPUs are also not supported.
Also, it requires an SSE2 capable processor.
We shall have a review out tomorrow at release and likely a livestream, so do ensure you're following us on Twitch.
If you wish to pick it up now, you can do so on the Humble Store, Feral Store or Steam directly. If you're worried about it not counting for Linux, Feral themselves have said publicly they're happy for people to buy games when they've announced them.
Quoting: WorMzy\o/My my, that's a bad cough you have ;)
Any ideas how someone can get out of their weekend obligations so they can play this instead? Asking for a friend.

Sounds like infectious to me...
Quoting: liamdaweQuoting: LeopardNo need to get defensive there. We are on the subject of drivers and I thought it was interesting how Wine + DXVK is helping NVIDIA improve their driver :)Quoting: liamdaweQuoting: LeopardIn regards to that new NVIDIA driver, NVIDIA seem to be closely watching DXVK and have made adjustments to improve it: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/267#issuecomment-382147467Quoting: liamdaweQuoting: LeopardPersonally, I wouldn't say it was odd. On Windows, NVIDIA and AMD both put out new drivers that are needed for a lot of AAA releases. There's always a reason behind it :)Quoting: EikeQuoting: LeopardNo , but you gotta aim higher. We need tons of AAA's.
Sure, but I would count RofTR as AAA already.
(And a quick Google search seems to agree on this.)
I didn't say anything like ; Tomb Raider is not AAA though.
Btw , 396.18 driver need is a bit odd.
But from what i saw , it is kinda problematic with its new technique for shaders.
So...Wine being used with DXVK is actually helping NVIDIA's Linux driver.
I didn't say anything about Wine at all.
Why do you come up with it?
If it is beneficial , than it is very welcome. I just think spending money for Wine titles is absurd , that's all.
In fact , donating to Wine and buying native Linux games much more sense.
I'm a Wine user too , not a hardcore one though.
We are cool :)
I already own the base game (through some bundle, I guess?). How important are the DLCs? Are they adding stuff to the end of the game or into the middle? I.e. do I need to buy the season pass thing before playing? Or can I push that to after I finished the main game (if at all)? I don't care about multiplayer, just single-player stuff.
For anybody who has played it: how does it compare to the previous 2013 Tomb Raider game? There I found the story to be really quite bad, with Lara being suprised about stuff that was very obvious a dozen hours ago. And the collection stuff was too over-to-the, and the quick-time events were annoying.
*I´m sad!*
That's the reason why I can't play F1.
I must be thinking about a new graphics card. If only they weren't so expensive at the moment because of the whole mining mania...

Quoting: KuJoHmm. Won't be playable for me. I have an R9 280, which is the second generation of GCN. According to the specifications, however, at least a 3rd generation card is required.
Maybe someone will try with such a card. Wouldn't be the first time a Feral game runs reasonable below minimum requirements.

It's likely that it'll work on that card, it's just not officially supported. Part of the reason for not supporting 1st and 2nd gen cards is that they require switching from radeon to amdgpu to get Vulkan support, and amdgpu is still not fully stable for them.

1. Baba Yaga is a story DLC available in-game. It's ok, but doesn't include actual Baba Yaga, so I was disappointed. I suspect it was cut from the base game and sold separately.
2. Cold Darkness is killing waves of zombies. It sucks.
3. Endurance mode is kinda Don't Starve in 3D. It's fun but repetitive. I'd say, get Don't Starve or The Long Dark instead.
4. 20 Year Celebration Pack is a short walking simulator.
I think the season pass is a rip-off and you won't lose anything if you don't buy it. Get in on a big sale if you want, but definitely not for a full price.
I like this game slightly more than the previous one. It almost has no QTEs, it has actual tombs to raid and some optional quests from NPCs. But the story is still written by Rhianna Pratchet and it's even worse than in TR 2013.

Tempting to buy it just to find out if it will work though. I've got the latest stable mainline kernel 4.16.2 and mesa 18.0 (padoka stable) on Ubuntu 16.04.4. So theoretically it should work from the get go.
What I don't know is how much of RADV is buggy with GCN1.1???
If anyone takes the plunge and tests it with GCN 1 or 1.1+ please do share your experience!
