Have you been having problems with the Linux port of Rise of the Tomb Raider? A new opt-in beta released today from Feral Interactive may help with that. See also: Our port report of the Linux version.

Here's what's changed:

  • Linux - Improved resource management on Nvidia devices when using driver version 396.18. The game should no longer crash when running at reasonable graphics settings for your hardware (2GB GPU - 1080p with Medium Texture Quality, 4GB GPU - 1080p with High Texture Quality)
  • macOS & Linux - Volume sliders now also apply to cutscene audio.

How to access it

Select the game in your Steam library, right click on it and hit Properties. From there, go to the Beta tab and select "mac_linux_public_beta" which will give you access to 1.0.4.

Good to see Feral be so quick after release to work on lingering issues, I'm still incredibly impressed by their work on this port.

Don't own it yet? Buy it from: Humble Store, Feral Store or Steam.

Quoting: toorWell, still crashing for me as soon as I launch the game. Sometimes it makes it up to the actual game, but that never last long.
Likely a completely different bug, have you emailed Feral support?

No but I have sent many times the crash report. It appears automatically everytime you launch the game again after a crash.

It's as almost as if Valve should directly support them >.>

I enjoyed Firewatch, but one has to wonder if Valve is going to buy/support someone like that, why not a hugely influential and community-driven developer like Feral?

How knows... Maybe Feral is already being helped financially by Valve.. That could explain the Steam exclusivity...

As long as Steam is so dominant in the PC gaming space, Valve doesn't need to bother paying for exclusives. I think it's more likely that Feral simply doesn't see taking their games to GOG as worth the investment. They might be right or they might be wrong, I wouldn't know. Personally I'd like to see them do it regardless.

Seems Great. No Crashes/Freezes anymore with 396.18.05 drivers

Regarding to some (but not all) cut screens, they are locked to 30 FPS and using lower resolution (likely 1080p), you can see that clearly when you're running the game in 4K. One of the examples is the starting of the snow scene (with tent and all) before Lara starts to climb up the mountain. Maybe PS4 and XBox One didn't have enough juice to run those cut scenes and the game makers had to make videos to cover it up...?

Not totally related as I have AMD hardware (RX480), but I couldn't succeed in launching the game so far.

I have the latest stable MESA drivers (18.0 I guess) and thought Vulkan support was included in them but it seems it is not and that Vulkan needs to be added somehow on top of MESA. I have already looked for some info and added a Vulkan package to my distro (Mint) but there are probably some more steps as it still tells me I don't have supported drivers and crashes on launch :(

You may need to add vulkan-radeon or it might be called vulkan-mesa

Can't really help further as not using mint

Edit.

Make sure you have vulkan-icd-loader too

After upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS to Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS, the game works fine with the hardware listed in my profile and 390.48 drivers..

Seeing as you've got 8GB of ram, it will work even better if you upgrade to 396.24. This new beta driver fixed the problems I had with 396.18 in other games.
