Double good news for you here as today RUINER entered Beta for Linux, plus you can get it cheap as an early unlock in the newest Humble Monthly (affiliate link).

Writing in the announcement on Steam, the developers noted that a Linux version on GOG is not in their current plans. They will only do that if there's a big enough demand.

Since it's a Beta, there will likely be issues. They say you need VLC installed for video and they've hidden a special cosmetic feature in the game for Linux fans—can't wait to see what, although they do say it's quite tiny.

Grab it now in the Humble Monthly which also gives you Kerbal Space Program, access to the Humble Trove and all the titles they add next month or Steam directly.

About the game:

RUINER is a brutal action shooter set in the year 2091 in the cyber metropolis Rengkok. A wired psychopath lashes out against a corrupt system to uncover the truth and retrieve his kidnapped brother under the guidance of a secretive hacker friend. Combine preternatural reflexes, augmented tools, and the arsenal of fallen foes to tear down and dismantle the corporate titans of virtuality dealers at HEAVEN.

They did say we would get a key to cover it properly today, but haven't heard back yet so will wait and see. Update: We have keys!

Yay, and I just bought it a couple days ago. Oh well, I'll have to gift that extra copy to someone when I get the bundle...

QuoteIf you do, please install proprietary video drivers (NVIDIA, Radeon) or Mesa.
In case of video-related issues, install VLC 3 and its dependencies.
Also, make sure that all your drivers are proprietary and up to date.

Since when Mesa is proprietary? It seems confusing...

C'mon... No excuse about lack of Galaxy on Linux? So why they don't just release it on GOG?

But i suppose i have to follow the rule, so +1 for GOG Linux release please!

QuoteThere’s a sliiight chance you may experience performance issues. If you do, please install proprietary video drivers (NVIDIA, Radeon) or Mesa.

From what I understand, we get a small amount per sign up, I don't think it matters how long for that choice is yours.

The game's already on GOG. Why would adding the Linux version there not be a given?

I don't want to be too harsh -- I am thankful that we're getting a Linux version at all -- but between this and the previous inconsistent communication on Linux support, it feels like we're always pulling teeth with this dev.

Because there is tons of games missiong for some obscure reason - https://www.gog.com/mix/games_that_have_native_linux_portselsewhere

Lets mention some of most shameless "Nope, not on GOG" - Tropico 5, Cities in Motion, Postal 2, Nuclear Throne, Overlord...

Unfortunately, Linux release on Steam not guarantee GOG release. I personally hope for better, but it would not be first time...

Quoting: GuestHow's performance for everyone else so far? not gotten very far in game yet but I'm struggling to have a fully smooth experience thus far, tried turning vsync off which seems to keep it above 60fps but still has inconsistency enough that I can see alot of stuttering, also tried disabling compositing along with capping the fps to 60fps but still dips under 60fps, even if I turn every setting down

That said, it's still perfectly playable so far with minimal drops, not encountered any game breaking bugs yet, but I'm hoping to get a solid 60fps when it releases out of beta

gtx 1060 3gb
i5 4690k
16gb ram
1600x900
Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit

My CPU on the central area has an usage between 70% and 90% and fps go to 30-40 and on the prologue map has picks that decrease GPU usage, its very CPU bound. I hope they can optimise with patches.

The download took was instantaneous and I get an error when launching (missing executable)
Any idea how to fix this?

Using Manjaro
