Big Robot Ltd has given all owners of The Signal From Tolva a big update with an entirely new area: The Polar Regions.
This new free expansion will give you a new map to explore, new missions and a new story. There's new secrets to discover, some difficult combat and talk of a maze to complete at the end. The new campaign is actually set before the original and it has a new soundtrack too.

I've tested it out myself and it works just as well as the original campaign. It's a strange game really, a lot of it is quite lonely exploration with random sections of combat mixed in. The combat isn't massively exciting either, something about the gunplay just feels too static, it's hard to describe but as an avid FPS fan I don't find the combat all that great. There's a lot worse and it can be quite fun in certain situations, like when you're outnumbered and friendly robots suddenly come running in to help.
It's a nice experience overall and quite a beautiful game, just don't go into it expect some seriously slick FPS action. It's more for those who love a good sci-fi setting with exploration. Nice to see it continued to be updated, especially a whole new campaign for free, it's not often we see that kind of effort.
Here's a few shots from the Linux version:
Performance on highest settings on Linux seems to be okay in the new area, with it staying mostly around 60FPS.
Find it on: Humble Store, GOG, Steam.

anyway i'd give it 7/10 also, performance is also really good and if you can get it on sale then yeah, its worth it
Quoting: dubigrasuI can definitely see it not being everyone's cup of tea. But oh yes, it needs moar land, I explored every corner of the map and still want more. Something in this game is strangely addictive.Yes, it is not a game that everyone will like. I think a good test is: Did you like wandering around the wasteland in Fallout 3 or New Vegas and just seeing what was there? If not, then this game isn't for you.
Sorry to be so positive :)
Reading the Tolva backstory PDF helped give more idea of why the planet was interesting. I really hope they do more games in that universe.
Gog still says its version is 1.0.34, but it is v1.0.52, with Polar for MAC and WIN

If you didn't like it before, this probably won't change your mind. However, I think it is awesome. Some nice new locations. Same haunting lonely atmosphere. Seems pretty big for a free expansion.
