Full Metal Furies, the cooperative action RPG from Cellar Door Games is damn fun, but the initial Linux release did have performance issues which now seem to be solved.
As I noted in my previous article, certain levels in the game had a serious performance drop where it practically became unplayable. The developer who ported it Linux, Ethan Lee, sent this tweet out earlier about it:
If you had those nasty performance drops in Full Metal Furies Linux, give the latest version a try - it seems the reason I couldn't make it happen myself was because the shipping Mono runtime was slowing it down, unlike my dev environment which is supposed to be _less_ stable :|

I decided to go back and give it another look, after playing around for a good hour to make sure I can confirm the levels I encountered it before have indeed been fixed. Everything I tried was now a smooth and utterly solid 60FPS.

Now I can happily recommend the game, as it's a huge amount of fun both with friends and alone. It's certainly a challenge when you're by yourself, as you switch between two picked characters to deal with enemies. You have to do this too, since certain enemies put up a coloured shield that only one of your characters can pierce through. This makes it a rather frantic, but seriously fun action RPG.
Each character has their own abilities and play-style, which makes multiple playthroughs really quite interesting. My favourite is still the Sniper, although it is quite a difficult class to master. Thankfully, you can change your character picks at the camp at any time.
If you're after an action RPG full of content, that you can play by yourself or in local/online co-op this is one not to miss. You can grab it now on Humble Store (no Linux icon, I've let them know) or Steam directly.
