Stardew Valley, the lovely farm-life sim from ConcernedApe and Chucklefish recently gained the long-awaited multiplayer support. The Linux version was previously left-out on GOG, but they just added it.

To access it on GOG, find it in your "Game Goodie" section of your library when you click on Stardew Valley:

You can connect to others via IP address (GOG say it's tested and works across LAN too), since GOG still haven't put out Galaxy for Linux and there's no hint in sight at when they will.

It's good to see GOG moving to allow more games to have a Beta version up, in addition to the main stable download. Previously such features were reserved for Galaxy, as one such user found out and posted about on reddit.

If you want to try it, you can grab it now from GOG. Also on Humble Store and Steam.

I wonder if the constant complaining of people on Twitter every time the beta was mentioned has some thing to do with it.

Well, showing a big demand for something certainly can help in times like this.

That's a great news.
Because the devs are actually listening all the players and the fact that GOG Galaxy is not necessary as it would be.
Thumbs up!

I'm looking at you devs of other games with lack of Linux support for some reason... ;)

Edit: As a reward, I'm thinking about buying this. But I have to buy a lot of games actually...^_^

Even if I don't immediately act on information like this, it's nice to search for it on this website, like now. I want to buy a second copy of Stardew, this time without annoying Steam DRM, but I wasn't sure if GOG had the multiplayer beta version. Time to buy it now!

If you try to launch steam version of stardew valley outside steam it will give you an error message about it failing to initialize the steam api, but it will still launch and work perfectly, so I wouldn't call it DRM. You will still need steam for initial download and updates though.

Interesting. I guess I never try that.

I got tired of logging into a Steam account on my kids' computers every now and then because Steam decides not to remember the password very long for some reason. I should have tried closing and launching again, since that works when my computer pretends to forget my Steam password. But then I'd have to teach my kids to do that in case I'm gone. Anyway, your tip most likely would have solved my problem. I don't mind buying a second copy since it will someday be used simultaneously with my own copy.
