Update: The same fellow I spoke to at Paradox just emailed in again, so we're now able to confirm Linux will be supported for Imperator: Rome! Here's what they said:
Paradox has confirmed that it plans to offer Imperator: Rome for Linux platforms
Original article:
Announced at the recent PDXCON, Imperator: Rome is a brand new title developed by Paradox Development Studio and publisher Paradox Interactive. Sadly, it seems they haven't made a decision on Linux support just yet.
We held off on announcing this initially, even though it has a Linux icon on the Paradox Store as not all Paradox titles are on Linux. Today, Paradox replied and here's what they told me:
Though, we have historically supported Linux in our internal development, we haven't made a decision yet for Imperator.
Hopefully they won't let their fans down in terms of Linux support, as I know many enjoy their games.
They released a teaser trailer, which doesn't really tell you anything at all. So here's a few screenshots:
In other Paradox news, Age of Wonders: Planetfall from developed Triumph Studios which is being published by Paradox Interactive was also announced. Sadly, that is only currently going to support Windows and they have not responded to my questions about Linux support.
Quoting: wvstolzingQuoting: EikeWell, at least we have the 99th "retro inspired" whatever, don't we? :'(
Yeah, but this one's probably 'inspired by' such retro titles as this: https://youtu.be/-Bd1tKfPr6s
I figured this is a given since Crusader Kings II begins about the time of the end of the Roman Empire. So not sure why it's 'retro inspired'.
Quoting: Mountain ManI'm curious how it's going to distinguish itself from Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV.
Makes perfect sense to me, this game deals with Roman times, CK2 is Dark/Middle Ages, Europa Universalis is from 1500(?) to WWII, Hearts of Iron is WWII. So only thing they'd be missing after this is from WWII era to Stellaris.
Basically making Civilization, one tech level at a time!

That referred to the original news which said Imperator: Rome might not be coming. Which would be one less in the occasional break from "retro inspired".

I mean in terms of gameplay and not just setting. Crusader Kings II is an RPG/dynasty simulator. Europa Universalis IV is about the politics and economic management of a nation. Heats of Iron IV focuses on the build up to and execution of war including complex battle strategies. What will be the gameplay focus of Imperator: Rome?

Oh, ha I misread. Fun thing about Roman era based games. There was a game in the early 90s I had on the Atari ST called Caesar. If I recall the European release had in the forum the 'Slave' and it was a black character. In the US version it was a white guy and they called it a 'Serf'.

Anyhow, that was a fun game. It was mostly about watching your borders as you expanded, otherwise the Gauls would rampage on through and wipe you out.

Good question there really is a theme going through the ages like this that makes sense. Either way, I own all of them, but damned if I've ever found the time to actually figure out any of them! I keep loading them up, then realizing I should learn how to play, then I start watching some tutorials, then decide to take a nap...
EDIT: it was not on the video but in the announcement post
Quoting: rustybroomhandleThe thing with Age of Wonders: Planetfall is that it is also announced for XBox One, so in all likelihood, the Microsoft thing will happen where the dev/publisher is not even allowed to mention any non Microsoft platforms for a set period of time.
It is also announced for Mac Os and PS4 and other platforms, so the "not allowing any non MS platforms is definitely not a thing. (see OS compatibilty here
