Doom: The Golden Souls 2 is another interesting free GZDoom game, taking some inspirations from Mario. Yes—really. It's the same developer behind the Castlevania: Simon's Destiny fan game.
Here's what the they said about it:
Doom : The Golden Souls 2 is the sequel of the groundbreaking mario styled hub-based mod, this time you'll travel through levels with a world map, unlocking new paths by reaching secret exits or by collecting big coins. You must retrieve 7 Golden Souls stolen by the Cyberdemon's minions in order to save the world... once again!
Direct Link
To run it, you need GZDoom v3.4.1 at a minimum according to what the developer noted in the download.
Testing it out myself, it's actually not bad, somewhat amusing in fact. A little weird though, since you're fighting demons in a rather colourful setting with cheery music.
You can find the announcement post here on the ZDoom forum. Also on ModDB.
Hat tip to nate.
I don't think they took people with no modding experience into account.
Quoting: KelsUm...I've got it downloaded and GZDoom installed, but...HOW do I play it? There are no instructions that come in the Golden Souls 2 package.

I think something like this
Haven't done it in a while. Have to try after work.
#gzdoom -file <mod>.pk3

So the only way to do it is via terminal?

Not 100% sure. Have not done it in some time :(
I think in the GUI you can place the WAD and MOD file. I recall using it like that for Brutal doom.

OK , i can confirm terminal DOES work.
Not sure how you can add it to the GUI menu.
Seems it only detects the WAD files in ~/.config/gzdoom , but not the pk3 files.
Maybe a desktop shortcut with the command in it ?

I could make a snap for this very easily, but they haven't included a licence file so I couldn't distribute it :(
