While the Linux version of BATTLETECH [Official Site] sadly didn't release with the latest patch, the developer did give it a clear mention.

Here's what they said:

The next items on our roadmap are Linux and localized versions of the game. We’re making good progress on Linux and hope to have more specifics to share soon. Unfortunately, we hit some unexpected setbacks on localization, and localized versions of the game (German, French, and Russian) will take longer than we previously thought. We're actively working through it and bringing more people onto the effort, as it’s a top priority for the studio. We’ll update you on Linux and localized version release dates as soon as we have them.

Emphasis ours.

Must sting a bit for all those who backed it during the crowdfunding campaign, but your wait should hopefully be over soon. They just released a pretty huge patch for the game too, which adds in a lot of community-requested features hopefully making it a better game.

I'm looking forward to it, let's just hope there's no further delays.

Quoting: GuestI admit that it first read to me like localisation problems with a GNU/Linux build were causing problems. Instead localisation takes higher priority, which means resource allocation delaying.

I still maintain everything I've mentioned before about this though. No need to repeat it again.

Given there's still no firm release date, no specifics on how development is going, I wonder how this will impact sales if the game is ever released for GNU/Linux. Just a shame, that's all.

I'll certainly buy it sooner or later.

You know for the life of me i don't understand why a developer knowing they want to or are going to release a title on Linux Don't use Vulkan api From the start. You learn the api coding and all its issues then porting is a lot easier.... ID Software has the first part down, but don't want to do the second "Linux".

How's the performance on macOS?

Due to my pile of unplayed games, I can live with a delay. As long as it comes to Linux before the graphics are ancient and it runs well, I will be pleased enough. If it was a multiplayer games that my friends wanted to play with me now, it would be a different story.

It's... reasonable. I had to turn anti-aliasing off, and reduce effects details - but you know, running on a MacBook Pro with an RX560, and probably with the last openGL version whatever that was. It's good enough for a game or two.

I fully expect the Linux performance to be kilometers ahead.

How's the performance on macOS?

About the same as windows, at least on AMD.

It’s a metal game... And that’s what you’ll get out of a 560, it’ll be the same on windows.

Oh cool! \m/.

But yeah, honestly though, even with a few deets turned off or down, it still looks great and runs fantastic. Super enjoyable game.

Quoting: devnullIf that's the case I demand a gender called "Penguin".

Why the sarcasm? That's an excellent suggestion. They'll have to watch Pingu for proper pronouns. Probably along the lines of "noot" or "meep".

Also please go reread the previous thread if you didn't get enough of that pointless discussion already.
