Strategy fans might want to take a look at the new Humble Monthly, as it includes Hearts of Iron IV.

Hearts of Iron IV is the highly rated World War II strategy game from Paradox Development Studio, one a few friends of mine have spent a great many hours in. For $12, it's worth it for that alone, since that's actually the lowest price I've seen it (Steam's lowest for it in comparison was $15.99 during a sale).

It also includes two other games: Blackwake, a multiplayer naval FPS whose developer has said they will attempt a Linux version closer to release and it also has Portal Knights, which is not on Linux and no hints of it coming.

As usual, subscribing to it also gives you access to the Humble Trove, which has quite a number of Linux games (over 30 last I checked) and Humble are gradually adding more indie games and unique games as time goes on.

Check out the Humble Monthly if you're interested.

This is the first time I've tried the monthly bundle, Hearts of Iron IV made me make the jump. Does anyone know if I'll still get the late unlocks if I go ahead and cancel my subscription immediately? Their FAQ seems to say yes:
QuoteQ: If I cancel, will I still keep the games I have received?

Yes! You will keep all of the games you have paid for. If you cancel before a monthly releases you will still receive the rest of the games once the monthly has launched.
Can anyone confirm that I'll still get the late unlocks? If yes, I'll just go and download all the games from the Trove and then cancel.

Sure you will. You paid for it? Did you not?

Anyhow I have the monthly bundle almost since the beginning, and so far every month has been worth it.

With the Monthly subscription mechanism, assuming you pay for the brand new bundle and then claim the early reveal, then the money will come out of your account for that month, and you'll get the late unlocks at the end.

You don't need to pause-a-month or out-right cancel your subscription until the last week of the present month. I tend to pause mine on 20th of the month, just before the money comes out.

While unpaused you get the store extra discount benefit. :)

So, you paid for July monthly (Hearts of Iron IV), so you don't need to pause or cancel until 20th July or later. If you paused, then if the next Monthly (August) is good, you can unpause again (and get charged for that one once you claim the early-reveal or just after 20th July passes).

Quoting: GuestThe other Linux compatible games added to the June bundle are :
- Bear with me collector edition
- Yooka Layle
I'd consider paying 10 euros for a package deal with just these two games, but the monthly subscription format just rubs me the wrong way.

You can just get the monthly, get the games, and immediately cancel it. And then activate it later if another deal you like appears. It's really simple, I did that a few times already.

Oh, about HoI 4, if you plan to get it because you expect something similar to Crusader Kings or Europa Universalis, don't.
Every single thing in HoI is about war, there really is nothing to do in the game besides that. Research for war, tech for war, build facilities for war, trade for war, choose war politics ...
Which is fine if you like that, but I was pretty disappointed that the game was so... single minded.
I prefer if war is just one of many aspects in such games.

I know. I just prefer paying for games I actually want instead of buying bundles that may or may not contain nice games. I guess I'm not a gambler?

At least in normal humble bundles I can see what I'm getting beforehand and even choose to direct my money to those developers whose games I'm actually going to install and play.

Games in a bundle are revealed as time goes by.
If you buy very early, then yes, it is kind of a gamble.
But simply wait until the timer runs out and you know what's inside.
Nobody forces you to get a bundle early before everything is revealed.

Don't ask me why they do that late reveal stuff, though. I also find it weird.

I just don't like the idea of the Monthly Bundle subscription model, and that's why I won't subscribe. As I said, the ability to choose who gets my money is a big plus in the normal bundles. The late unlocks don't matter much in that case, because by then I've already selected who gets my cash. The Monthly would not allow me to do that.

In the end I still prefer buying individual games, and wouldn't buy many bundles if I could afford to be picky.
