If you're new to Linux and you're wondering what notable releases have made their way to Linux in 2018, here's a quick list of some good stuff on the table.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, we have to cut it down somewhere! Otherwise, it will go on forever as there's been rather a lot. We're a long way from Feb, 2013 when Steam was officially released on Linux that's for sure. I remember being able to keep track of releases every day, now it's practically impossible.

Top 20 Linux games released in 2018 (in no particular order):

  • Surviving Mars
  • Northgard
  • Cultist Simulator
  • Overload
  • Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War
  • Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
  • Horizon Chase Turbo
  • The Station
  • Ion Maiden (preview campaign)
  • Dead Cells (early access, final release really soon)
  • Ruiner
  • For The King
  • Iconoclasts
  • Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
  • N++
  • Battle Chasers: Nightwar
  • Full Metal Furies
  • Wizard of Legend

Honourable mentions to Turok and the recent Linux beta of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Desperados - Wanted Dead or Alive, POSTAL Redux, SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics and there's likely more of these revamped/enhanced releases that added Linux support this year.

Even with my massively cut-down list, that's nothing to scoff at for sure. There's tons more on the way, with some already announced like:

  • Crazy Justice - "Sometime between July 20th - July 30th"
  • Chasm - 31st July
  • This Is the Police 2 - 2nd August.
  • State of Mind - 15th August.
  • Two Point Hospital - 30th August.
  • Pathfinder: Kingmaker - 25th September.
  • Life is Strange: Before the Storm - "Soon - FeralTime™".
  • Total War: WARHAMMER II - "Quite Soon - FeralTime™".
  • INSOMNIA: The Ark - No ETA.
  • Victory At Sea Pacific - No ETA.
  • Battletech - No ETA.
  • Imperator: Rome - No ETA (possibly 2019, no specific date set).
  • We Happy Few - No ETA.

The list of games still coming, goes on for rather a lot time. Naturally, there's plenty not yet announced that we're aware of as well and no we won't give any hints as to what—sorry.

Inspired by this reddit post, thought it was time for a new one.

How does Overload compare to Descent Underground?
I have Descent Underground from, I think Kickstarter a while back. Is this the same trleam? How do they compare?
Only played the Overload playable teaser so far but everything feels right, know what I mean? Classic Descent was what, way back in '95 or something. It's possible that I could have the ol' rose-tinted glasses on when reminiscing... ;)
Teamwise, take a look: https://playoverload.com/team/

Didn't try Descent Underground, but from what I read online the reception was rather underwhelming.
Is Descent Underground even still going? Was removed from Steam ages ago.

Overload is fantastic, made by some original Descent developers.
I don't think so, but I installed the Steam game and still have it. Didn't play it yet though.

Helium Rain will most likely release in 1.0 this year, and it is already a real jewel in its current state, the gameplay is great and there is a lot of depth in the mechanics and the economy. It's not only a good game by Linux standards (a platform on which fewer games are available), but I believe it's also one of the best space games so far, including Windows-only games.
+1 to everything you wrote. Helium Rain also I believe has had over 10% of all sales be Linux. Sadly, I think it's gotten zero attention in the Windows gaming world, where Star Citizen and Elite are sucking all the oxygen from everyone else and plow over all space gaming news there.

+1 to Overload as well.

Also (remotely) possible for 2018 is X4 for Linux, which has a 2018 windows launch date.

Still waiting (and hoping) MXGP3 will be on Linux eventually.

Also, I really wished Astragon launching their latest game on Linux. Bus Simulator 18 and Fishing: Barents Sea looks awesome.

p/s: FeralTime™ ..... hahaha!

Yeah! Do we even have a motocross game similar to this on Linux? Not counting small 2D games like X-Moto or the seemingly broken promises like MX Nitro.

There's no Linux motorcycle-related games that only focused on motorcycling in general. Road Redemption more like 'arcade fighting' than motorcycling to me. I really hope MXGP3 will be on Linux. Even if they launched it like 'ARMA 3-style' Linux beta, I will buy it..

A proper MX game would be simply awesome! Motor(sports) games is definitely an area where Linux is lacking titles, especially where bikes are concerned.

Road Redemption was an easy instant buy since I loved Road Rash on PC back in the way back. ^_^ Let's also mention another bike-related classic; Full Throttle Remastered! Released for Linux and is of course brilliant, another oldie and solid goldie.

Oh, oh! Lookie here...
[GARAGE: Bad Trip](https://store.steampowered.com/app/878580/GARAGE_Bad_Trip/) is a bloody topdown shooter inspired by VHS era B-movies. You play as an ex drug dealer named Butch, who single-handedly slays hordes of living dead to save a girl.

Devs recently confirmed upcoming Linux release! :)
