Faction Warfare is coming to Albion Online on July 31st with the next major update named Merlyn and it does sound quite promising.

Albion isn't short on PvP experiences but even so they're boosting it some more! The Faction Warfare system will be live with this update and here's what it entails:

  • Outposts and Trading - Take down enemy factions' outposts by defeating unique faction bosses with their own strengths, skills, and personalities. Participate in high-risk, high-reward trade runs through enemy territory.
  • Special Faction Rewards - New faction resources open up alternative crafting recipes, while faction capes and mounts offer exciting new gameplay opportunities.

You can hear more about Faction Warfare in this video, presented by the Game Director. As much as I want to see much more PvE content, this does still sound pretty sweet.

They also detailed these additional changes coming:

  • Refining and Crafting Bonuses - Each of the Royal Cities now has unique bonuses, based on materials that are rarer in that city's biome.
  • Resource Redistribution - Enchanted resources now appear in greater quantities around the Royal Cities, providing new opportunities for gatherers and transporters.
  • Equipment Overcharge - Overcharging an item gives it a temporary power boost, at the cost of risking breakage once the overcharge ends.
  • Marketplace UI Improvements - In addition to a more streamlined UI, players can now view a more accurate average price display and an in-depth sales history.
  • New Dungeon - The new T5 Group Dungeon, 'Stoneroot Caverns', pits you against hordes of massive Keepers in a sacred underground cave.
  • New Costumes and Trophies - New wedding costumes celebrate the first year of Albion Online, and new Laborer Trophies are available for the various gathering nodes.
  • Additional Improvements - Merlyn also brings balance and skill updates, easier navigation, bugfixes, and much more.

You can find out more on the official update page

This might be a good time to jump back in, we might revive the old Linux guild that we didn't end up doing too much with. It's really great to have an MMO like this on Linux. I do have some griped with it, like a lack of meaningful PvE experiences, but each major update has improved the game rather a lot so it's pleasing to see it still very much alive.

Been slowly getting back into this game. Is the Linux guild still kicking?

I doubt it. It has been dead for a very long time as far as I know. But I have been running across fellow GNU/Linux users from time to time ;-) Feel free to contact me in-game: Kohrias.

Hey,

because the lack of a good native MMO on Linux and this article i buyed albion yesterday from the storepage.
God, i'am not a noob but installing the Client on Arch wasn't an click and play thingie.

1. Launcher from AUR didn't install. (OK editing the pkgbuild and deleting !upx from the array worked.)
2. Launcher download driect from the site didn't worked either out of the box.
the https://forum.albiononline.com/index.php/Thread/54258-Tuto-Linux-Have-a-working-game/?pageNo=1 Forum helped and i got the client working.

my question, are the devs aware that installing the game on linux is a non trivial tasks and they are the reason because the shiped libSDL is crap?

second if there is some kind of linuxguild or players iam absolute interrested in joining ;)
i cant promise how long or how much i play AO, it has it's charm esp. similiaries to EvE in a fantasyset but over the years a transformed into a casual player (thanks to GW2 on wine).
maybe a drop it after a month, maybe i sink my time completle in it ;)

cheers J.

The dev's don't support any other GNU/Linux distribution but Ubuntu. In addition, if you don't buy it from the Steam platform installation is a pain. However, there is a solution - Flatpak. I got tired of dealing with the development team back and forth. At one point I simply asked for a Steam key, but they told me no due to how their key generation works. So, I basically walked away from the game. About a month ago I heard somewhere, might have been here in the forums, that a Flatpak version was made and well maintained. I tell you what - kudos - to the flatpak maintainers because I've had zero issues on my Fedora 28 system.

Honestly, this game is a pay 2 win money grab grind fest. Its the worst sort of game as you easily lose your gear that you paid 2 win to get when you die. I recommend staying far away unless you want to feel constantly tempted by the game to put in real money or just wast your life away grinding for materials.

@MKN-dev-LINUX Thx the flatpak Version i found on Github works (relatevly) well in Arch ;) so i can ditch my script and just use the flatpak for now.

@monkygames Hmm, i dont feel it is pay2win. you could stay on premium from ingame earned silver. and to compare it to EvE it's way easier to get there in a Month.
I know people that spent lots of money on cosmetic items in GW2 or even mobile games. For sure, having premium is an advantage, if this is pay2win OK, but you have the choice of paying monthly, or working ingame toward the renew of your subscription.
and the monthly fee isn't more than in other games.

And honestly, paying real (or sinking lots of) money to restore your gear ... Everybody doing this needs professional help! Its just a game, and when its not worth the money, don't spent it!
