THQ Nordic has done it once again for us, updating an older classic to improve platform support for newer systems.  As was hinted only yesterday, Desperados - Wanted Dead or Alive has been updated to include official Linux support.

Features:

  • More than 20 enemies with different profiles, from the lazy and cowardly bandit, to the fearsome mercenary.
  • A team of 6 characters, each with their own very distinct characteristics, to manage in real time.
  • 25 different levels provide nail-biting intrigue, with cinematic transition scenes and landscapes that will take your breath away. Amazing artificial intelligence!
  • Each enemy is ranked on 10 different criteria, including intelligence, courage, marksmanship, resistance to alcohol, etc.
  • An array of different settings: day-time, night-time, storms, dusk, villages, ghost towns, fortresses, gold mines, saloons, prisons, boats 6 training levels to allow the player to really get into the story

Interestingly, they also added in a lost demo level:

Includes a long lost demo mission where Cooper, Doc and Kate free a town from Outlaws.
A challenging level from back in the old days when some games still had rather difficult demos

On top of that, you can now select your language as well between French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and English. The demo mission is limited to French, German, Spanish and English.

You can grab it from Humble Store (Linux icon should appear there soon) and Steam, it is not on GOG just yet.

Here's to many more from THQ Nordic!

Article updated after publishing with the GOG link now it's up.

Is there any way to send them something as an appreciation? Like a cake or something?

One of my favourite games of all time.
I simply love the setting and the game is so well executed: the characters, visuals, music, the missions, it all comes together so nicely. One of the things I like most in Desperados is its AI. It's one of the very few games where the enemies actually react when one of their buddies goes missing.

I'm really looking forward for this updated version getting released on GOG.com.

Can you guys do me a favour and hunt down some information if the remastered version of Red Faction: Guerilla is coming to Linux as well? :D I tried writing them on Facebook but go no answer.

This would be awesome! Would have to play through it again.

It'd be nice if there were more games that 'you bought this in Steam, here's your copy in GOG' out there. Seems they did a few, then never really added more.

Then again I'd use GOG more if I could be lazy and install them from a UI like Steam :P

They usually have some games in GOG Connect during sales, but only temporarily. There's usually a banner on the shop front page when that's the case, but I think they just want you to keep checking.

I own this game on GOG as well but I didn't bother and bought it again. Just because I can :) 5 bucks on this classic is a no brainer and I add another Linux sale this way.

It's now official: Mimimi Productions (the team that created Shadow Tactics) is working on Desperados III.

The alpha screenshots already look amazing!

I hope they will release this game on Linux as well.
If so, this is going to be a day one purchase.

Here is an alpha gameplay video from Gamescom 2018:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kACPYJlnErA

I like the fact that the player can walk in the streets without rising any alarms (3:34). This really makes the game feel more like a breathing, living world instead of an interactive chess board.

Also I like how the player can collect hints by listening to NPCs (4:18 & 4:50).

What I don't like is the gore. I hope they tone that down.

But the dialog between the characters really is great.

All in all, the alpha footage already looks fantastic.

Now, this only needs to come to Linux as well. My wallet is ready.
