Hipster Cafe [Official Site] seems like an amusing take on the management sim game and the developer indicated their willingness to bring it to Linux.

Love the ballpit—hilarious.

About the game:

Developed in the Loading Bar in the hipster centre of Dalston, London by a bunch of hairy people who work as 'freelancers in media', Hipster Café is a simulation game based on very real life experiences. In it, you must serve up a menu based on the latest trends, research more obscure coffees and entertain the Hipsters by building up a map of ridiculous furniture.

I actually like games that playfully make fun of current trends like this. It was only recently I went into a coffee shop and all these fancy names utterly confused me, who the heck wants a "grande pumpkin spice latte with a hint of vanilla"—I just want a darn coffee.

Features:

  • Optimise your food menu to cater to the palates of the great and the good.
  • Customise your space to keep it at the cutting edge of design.
  • Fill your café with the latest greatest entertainments and distractions.
  • Keep up to date on the latest trends on social media, because as soon as something goes mainstream, the hipsters are looking for the new cool thing.

In reply to a Twitter post asking about Linux support, the developer said this:

Hey cheers. We'll certainly try to make sure it works on both Mac and Linux too yes.

They're also keeping us in mind when it comes to the beta. Feel free to post in this Steam forum topic I opened to show your support, or let them know on Twitter. As always, it doesn't necessarily mean it will come but what they said about it did seem quite positive and showing your support (if you would buy it) takes little effort.

It will release on Steam later this year.

Thanks for the tip popey!

Oh boy! I hope you can make window boxes with avocado-slice-style cushions! No hipster cafe should be without one of those!

Hipster Cafe... Now you can bankrupting yourself without losing your money. :P:D

Note: FYI, most so-called hipster cafe in Malaysia only survived less than 2 years and that's maximum.

Funny thing is, Hipster Cafe introduced me to the genre. Although it is somewhat a sim, I want more of that. Something like Stardew Valley should do.

Turns out, there are lots and lots of games like this, thanks to the guys that compiled this list: https://rawg.io/games/linux/simulation.
