Rogue Legacy gets a five-year anniversary update

By -

The charming platformer where you play heroes across the generations has gotten its first update in years. There’s a few changes that may make it worth revisiting the title.

Rogue Legacy [Official Site] was a fun little romp when it came out way back in 2013 and I sunk in many an hour trying to conquer its vast castle and the enemies within. There’s plenty find and do in the game and dying isn’t the end of your journey. The main twist is, in fact, that if you die you play as one of your characters’ descendants. As each character has a different class and possible negative genetic traits, it can make for a lot of unexpectedly challenging and varied runs.

Even though it’s been a couple of years since the last patch, and the developers have gone on to release the action RPG Full Metal Furies since, this latest update brings Rogue Legacy to version 1.4.0. There’s your usual bug fixes and balance tweaks, but also new free goodies to enjoy. Here’s a few highlights from the patch notes:

  • Rogue Legacy has been fully translated into 8 different languages!
  • Mac and Linux versions have been updated to the newest patch.
  • Boss remixes now only spawn in NG+ and up.
  • Prosopagnosia trait has been added to the game. You are bad with faces.
  • Clonus trait added. You've got the shakes.
  • Mouse rebinding has been added.

While none of this is exactly revolutionary, it’s still lovely for a game released several years ago to get attention from its developer.

You can find Rogue Legacy on GOG, the Humble Store, or Steam. It’s also currently 75% off on Steam until the end of the month.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

LOL. I've been diagnosed with prosopagnosia when I was 20. Never bothered me, didn't know I have it. Can't decide wether that trait is positive or negative. :D

I played this for a while and quite enjoyed it. However, I didn´t get very far, either this is the kind of game that needs a controller to play or I just suck at platformers. (probably a bit of both)

Much better with controller. It's a great little game. Remember to use the architect.

I'll probably buy this one. It's really cheap and looks fun indeed

The game was fun. It was a nice throwback to the days of Ghouls n Ghosts. Although it was one of the most horribly optimized indie games I've played so far. It is nice that they updated it, I just wish they would address the poor performance on low end machines. It is a 2D game and it deserves to be played on more machines than it is capable.
