Slime Rancher is probably one of the sweetest games available on Linux and this latest free content update continues keeping it sweet.

These super happy little helpers can be unlocked from the Lab:

They can help you do various things around your ranch like feeding slimes, collecting their plorts and selling them at the market, storing crops in silos and more. Basically, they help with with least interesting tasks in the game. They're slightly smart too, they wont overfeed your slimes for example or completely empty a chicken coop.

Drone stations are powered by water and only last a day, so if the petals are closed you need to give them a splash of water to wake up again—how delightful.

There's also a few other minor features in this update, like a PS4 gamepad showing the proper in-game prompts instead of ABXY you would see square, triangle and so on and it also fixes up some bugs.

Such a seriously good game, a very cute game that's great for everyone and so nice to have it on Linux!

I don't see an update on GOG yet, but I guess it'll be there soon. I'm only getting started with the game, but I'm looking forward to the drones already. I'm not a big fan of micromanagement.

The game is just ridiculously cute. I played it more than a year ago, and the cute sounds, art and animation just bring a smile to your face.
It's a bit like watching a video of puppies.

Mechanically, I found the game to be rather shallow. There is great breadth here and that can keep you busy for a while, but extremely little depth.
Maybe not unexpected and maybe that fits the cute style, but one should not expect this game to last for a very long time.

There seems to be quite a lot to discover. I'm just hoping the rather repetitive grind to get there won't kill my motivation. Feels a bit too sandboxy, maybe. Well, I guess knew what I was in for, although I was hoping for a balance between fun and chores more in line with Stardew Valley.

I'll keep playing in short stints. I'm not bored with it just yet.

No, I didn't play it recently, just picked up news of some updates.

All of them introduced basically just "more". More slimes, more recipes, more areas.
That's what I mean with breadth.
Nothing of that makes any of the game mechanics more involved or deep than "pair blob A + B, get their valuable shitplort, build more stuff for even more plort variants".

At some point, you just lose interest, no matter how many more kinds of cute slimes the game throws at you.
Though that point was late enough even a year back to get my money's worth from the game.
