All aboard the hype train, as Feral Interactive are setting off with a new native Linux game that's being teased on their port radar.
For their Tweet:
5PM on a Friday, we're getting ready for the
#BankHolidayWeekend to start, and the Feral Radar decides to kick into life with a new blip for macOS and Linux. Well, whatever. We'll fix that rusty old thing on Tuesday. Okay, bye!
Here it is:
"Working with fire and steel" huh—anyone got any thoughts? I have a lot that come to mind, but I don't think I've ever managed to guess a single one of them correctly, they're always a damn good surprise.
Really great to see more coming from Feral, I sure do hope they have more on the way too. They're a company that has supported Linux really well for a long time now, both in terms of games and wider community efforts.
What a week!
Quoting: jensQuoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI think Feral must stop doing this porting zapping..
They should concentrate the porting skills in one game at a time..
Now they must focus in the ultra super delayed Life is Strange: Before the Storm.
My guess is that Ferals is also waiting for a DX stream-output like feature to get into Vulkan specifications and drivers.
As I said in another post, they should implement a plan B with ye olde OpenGL if they are having problems with Vulkan..
I understand that LIS:BTS works fine on wine OpenGL
Quoting: RoosterI assure you that you can, and it actually works extremely well.Quoting: Mountain ManMaybe it's Skyrim. Wouldn't that be ironic now that you can play Skyrim in Steam for Linux using Proton.
As far as I know, you can't play Skyrim using Proton yet. Or am I wrong?

Glad to hear that. What are your specs and which version are you using?
Did try Planetside 2 but that was a no go still :(

Is that the original? Because I hear Special Edition still doesn't run well.

Quoting: MayeulCQuoting: BrisseQuoting: EikeQuoting: BrisseDon't quote me on this, but I believe I've read on Feral's Twitter that if you buy a game that was announced but not released by Feral, and you do it from a Linux-machine, they still get their cut, as long as you avoid playing it on a Windows-machine within the first two weeks.
I remember the same! That would make one interesting question...
What I'm curious to know is if you buy it now and play using Proton, does Feral still get their cut? Someone should ask on their Twitter, but I don't have a Twitter-account :)
Yes, the platform you play it more on in the two weeks following the purchase determine the platform that it's counted at. Proton is counted as Linux. This has been stated many times before, and repeated by the Great Liam Himself in the two [bottom] proton articles lately. (a permalink to article updates would be nice, Liam)
The real question here is rather: does the Feral radar count as an official announcement?
I'm pretty sure this is not the case, and is only relevant for which platform the purchase is counted for in the platform statistics. For Feral to get their cut of your purchase, you need to buy or pre-order from the Feral store directly, or buy on Steam after the Linux version has been released.
Here's a couple of tweets to support this:

Quote[...] Just pre-order the game from the Feral Store [or] just buy the game on Steam and install the Linux version once it's released.

Quote[...] Ideally, please wait for the Linux release before you buy or play.

Quoting: MblackwellWhy wouldn't it be Total War: Three Kingdoms?
Because it is not scheduled for release until sometime in Spring 2019 according to steam. I am thinking it might be F1 2018.

But with Proton, I would advertise my games as early as possible, if I were Feral... We are talking 8-10 months from now... It's not that far.
Edit: This said... Working with Fire and Steel from China Crisis is considered New wave / Post Punk music... Just saying... :)

Doing a search about 8 pointed stars, I stumbled upon Octogram (obviously) and some interresting informations about a Latvian god named Auseklis...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auseklis
QuoteThe player continues the story of the ranger Talion and the spirit of the elf lord Celebrimbor, who shares Talion's body, as they forge a new Ring of PowerYes, yes, “fire and steel”, and the Ring is gold. But a forge is usually steel, and the background to the image seems to be gold. Plus Feral did Shadow of Mordor.
Not sure where the star comes in (I'm not a big Tolkein fan), but if I were a betting man, that's where my money would be right now.

I do not think, historically, games that appear under the soon section of the feral radar are 8-10 months out. Since F1 2018 is likely an easy port because of F1 2017 and it was on the radar before steam play was officially announced, therefore feral stuck with their radar plans. We shall see how feral handles things going forward, I do believe they need to be as transparent as possible in order to collect money from ports, instead of steam play. They have used wine as a reason for not porting older games before. We shall see. Also, feral has not put a game out on the radar that was not out for Windows. So F1 2018 and less likely shadow of war. That said, I really would prefer shadow of war.

Shadow Warrior 2 (I did manage to shoe-horn the clues onto this title earlier)
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Hitman 2
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War (note that the Definitive Edition is due soon, on Windows)
Left Alive (Square Enix)
Elex

I've seen at least three guesses for F1 2018 around here, but I am having a lot of difficulty understanding what the picture of an 8-point star and "Working wit fire and steel" have to do with that game. Moreover, I can't shake the feeling that Feral might skip F1 2018.
Don't get me wrong, though, I'm so looking forward to that game it's already been wishlisted so Codemasters are aware of the demand.

In fact I personnally expect to see a port of Shadow of the Tomb Raider because of the previous two games that already got ported. A day-one linux release, like what happened with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, would be awesome, but one may dream and I totally don't know how it could relate to the clues...

I do suspect we will get Shadow of the Tomb Raider, just not sure on when. I doubt it is this radar blip. It has almost been a year since shadow of war was released. A close to day one release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider would be amazing. Which is something feral needs to do, especially with proton having launched and changing the market. I am just not sure if feral would put a game on the radar that doesnt release for another month. As long as its not RTS or Total War i am gtg.

Well the star in the picture has 8 points, but that's about the only connection I could make with F1 2018. However, ignoring the hint, F1 2018 would make the most sense given the time of this announcement.
Shadow of War is too old for radar, Shadow of the Tomb Rider and TW: 3 Kingdoms are not yet out on Windows.
Quoting: GuestQuoting: g000hI don't have a good idea what the clues are pointing towards, however just sharing a few titles that it "could" be, and I would like. Trying to avoid ridiculous titles which will never come to Linux.
