If you think you have good aim and fast reflexes, Polygod is probably a good FPS for you to check out with single-player, local co-op and online play.

Released on Friday last week, the final version includes tons of bug fixes, 25 achievements, lots of new sound effects, graphics options and the usual sort of polish you expect when a game leaves Early Access.

About the game:

Blending a fast-paced, Quake-esque feel with randomness, difficulty and our handcrafted power-up system, Polygod is a hardcore gamer and speedrunner's dream. Only the most skilled and strategic players will defeat the Trial of the Gods.

Curious about it, I picked up a personal copy and honestly I didn't want to put it down. As simple as the gameplay is, it's surprisingly addictive thanks to how easy it is just to jump on in.

What makes it so fun, is the gun blessing system. You start off with a basic crappy single-shot pistol, but after a while you can end up with a bit of a monster. As you progress through the game and take down enemies, you will collect Souls. You then exchange these Souls at various Alters spread throughout each area for weapon Blessings, which all stack on top of each other to create some serious cool combinations. The Blessings aren't just for your gun though, some affect you directly like your movement speed, bullets exploding from you when you fall and so on.

The types of weapon combinations you can get are simply ridiculous. How about a bullet that explodes on impact, that clones itself after a certain distance away and has a chance to set enemies on fire and slow them down? You can do all that and an insane amount more too.

The Boss Fights are absolutely mental too. One such fight was against a massive snake-like creature with the face of a dragon. Its body was made up of blocks, I destroyed one and it turned into another dragon face flying around shooting at me. It turned into quite a bullet hell, it was pure madness. What's also nice about the boss battles, is that you choose when to do them. You go through portals when you feel you're ready, so it's quite nice.

Naturally I've died, died some more and carried on dying so many times I've lost count, but it's brilliant and I want to keep going on to see what kind of weapon I can piece together in my next run. A very unexpectedly good FPS. The Linux version has been flawless, not one single issue.

Grab a copy from Humble Store and Steam.

The frantic bullets-everywhere bits and jumping about reminds me oddly of Drunken Robot Pornography, at least what I've seen in the trailers.

For information for non-QWERTY keyboard users: I didn't find a way to change key mapping. :(

edit: It's on the first launching screen, before the game's loading, tab "input" just after the tab "graphics". Still, some key mapping for reason doesn't work for me
