Krush Kill 'N Destroy 1 and 2 are two classic real-time strategy titles from the 90's and a team of coders are looking to revive them using the open source OpenRA game engine.

Thanks to the power of OpenRA it will be open source, support Linux, Mac and Windows along with having online play, modding support and more. They don't currently have the source available for viewing yet, seems like that will come along with the first release.

You can see a recent video of their progress:

Unlike OpenRA when used with the old Westwood strategy games, KKnD is not free and still requires a purchase. Thankfully, GOG have both so when the time comes getting the assets should be easy enough.

Going by their last update, it seems like progress is coming along rather well with it being "nearly playable". They're currently working on getting the resource management from KKnD supported in the OpenRA game engine, which is the last step towards their first release. I'm now keeping an eye on their GitHub for when the release is up.

Find out more on their official site here.

These games are good and have an interesting post apocalyptic setting
I only have two issues with them
1.The AI in campaign can get really impossible round mission 4 or 5
2.It seems the only scope is to go to the most powerful units imaginable
There is some countering but if I recall correctly from playing you just need to go as big as possible

Hopefully they fixed the AI. I remember this game being great, but your guys would just stand there and die if you didn't tell them to attack.

Of my.. I probably sunk a year of my life into this. That was such a fun game back then :D
