Are you as excited as I am about the news of Sir Patrick Stewart returning as Jean-Luc Picard in a new Star Trek series? Well, now you can nerd out in style with Stage 9 which let's you explore the Enterprise-D from Star Trek The Next Generation.
Sent in by a reader, who also happens to be one of the people working on it, Stage 9 aims to recreate the entirety (inside and out) of the Enterprise-D using Unreal Engine 4. They also gave me a little fun fact, that the Linux version seems to be more popular than the Mac version.
You can see a recent release video below:

Performance is a bit hit and miss and at one point I had to perform an emergency transport, as I seemed to fall out of the Turbolift into space—quite amusing. I also got blown up in a warp core breach, so that was certainly something.
Also, they recently shared an update on progress towards the next version:

A fun idea, will be interesting to see how far they can push it. As much as I love some fan projects, I do fear the eventual copyright hammer coming down on them.
Find out more on their official website. You can download the Linux build here, once you extract the archive find the "Stage9Linux.sh" file and run it. They also have a Discord Channel you can join.
And all this time in the "not so" turbo-lift.

There is a Linux version available for download. It's right there along with the other versions. The link is in this article.
If you have ever looked up set design for things like The Shining you will learn that they often cannot make logical sense. I wonder how the designers of this recreation handled this.
Quoting: wvstolzingBy the way, is the new PatStew series at all related to the next season of 'Discovery'?Unlikely.
Time travel has always been a minor part of Star Trek, but never really played the main role - which is great, as time travel usually tends to make storylines ugly and messy.
Discovery is about 150 years prior to the new Star Trek series (as that will be set pretty much exactly 20 years after Nemesis).
So any connection between them could only be very artificial so I hope they keep that to a minimum.

Time travel played a major role in Enterprise with Archer as Captain. Maybe that's why I never really got warm with it.
Quoting: armageddon51Hum, great idea but it needs a lot of work. Remind me of years ago graphics. A bit like this game "Titanic Honor and Glory" with the Unreal engine too but no where near the exquisite graphics. There is a windows demo but sadly no Linux, yet.I wouldn't be so hard on them. It's a amateur, fan made labor of love as far as I understand. I'm happy it exists....

Did it? That's weird - I loved Enterprise, thought the characters were amongst the best I'd watched, was gutted when it was ended... but I don't remember much in the way of time travel being a core theme. Honestly, I don't remember too much of any Star Trek series... ever. They all kind of merge into one for me. Voyager was great. I remember not enjoying DS9, even though everyone I've ever met tells me it was the best one. TNG was awesome of course. And I'm enjoying, mostly, Discovery, albeit one character's acting is leaving me cold.
But more Star Trek? Yes, please!
I too hope to be playing this with SteamVR one day.
