Positech Games have announced Democracy 4 [Official Site], the next evolution of their political strategy game and it's coming with Linux support. For those who think they can run a country or would like to have a go at it, this is probably the closest you will ever get.

This is good to see, because we had Democracy 3 that supported Linux, but Democracy 3 Africa did not support Linux. A shame too, because I rather liked what I saw in Democracy 3 which is why I'm quite happy about this news.

Development sounds like it's in the early stages, with Jeff Sheen from Stargazy Studios taking development and design lead, who just so happens to be the person who also designed Democracy 3 Africa.

The game will be completely updated to reflect modern issues, so no more worrying about the ‘V’ chip and other long forgotten issues, and more worrying about fake-news, social media, and other social phenomena driving politics in 2018 onwards.

The release date is ‘some time in 2019’ and we expect to offer an early-access / playable alpha version to players before the games final release. Target platforms are PC, OSX and Linux.

See the announcement here.

If you want to see what the fuss is about while you wait, Democracy 3 can be found on Humble Store, GOG and Steam.

Hat tip to hardpenguin.

Democracy 3 seemed interesting but for some reason I never did get it.
Shame really , seemed like you could turn an economy around by legalizing and taxing drugs and you could also get assassinated by nuns for being pro choice.

I wonder where the change of heart is coming from, after not releasing the last two dlc for Democracy 3 for Linux.

I was once assassinated for creating a socialist utopia bare of any problems but rich in personal freedom and culture. The right wing opposition had rather had a worse life instead. Walls are raised in people's minds first...

I'm curious what the new version has to offer and if that justifies a purchase.

As for the Electioneering DLC, they must've forgotten to add the icon to the store page, as it is indeed available for Linux since earlier this month:

It's also available on GOG since a couple of days, and in this case it's correctly advertised as such in its store page. :P

Look forward on what's Democracy 4 challenges has to offer. In Democracy 3, it's hard to maintain the country fiscal, at the same time making everyone especially Capitalists happy in this game.

Wow! Pretty realistic game.

I made a pretty good mod for Demcracy 3 but couldn't upload it. I'll have another go on this one I think.

That's good to know, thanks. Though I checked steamdb before posting and there's no tux icon there either: https://steamdb.info/app/483450/ but I suppose it may be like with Payday 2 dlcs - no tux icon but still work.
