I just today discovered the surreal puzzle adventure The Gardens Between and it looks like it's going to be something special. The visuals along with the presentation sucked me right in.

The story:

Best friends Arina and Frendt fall into a series of vibrant, dreamlike island gardens peppered with everyday objects from their childhood. Together they embark on an emotional journey that examines the significance of their friendship: the memories they’ve built, what must be let go, and what should never be left behind.

Lost in a mysterious realm where cause and effect are malleable, the friends find that time flows in all directions. Manipulate time to solve puzzles and reach the apex of each isle. Follow the duo as they unpack and explore their precious moments spent together, lighting up constellations and illuminating threads of a bittersweet narrative.

Obviously there's more to a game than having a good art style, so I'm keen to see what the gameplay is actually like. A time manipulation mechanic does sound interesting!

Back in December last year, they said on Steam "Linux is a strong possibility." and that they just hadn't had chance to test it yet. However, I spoke to the developer moments ago on Twitter where they confirmed Linux support is in!

It releases on September 20th on Steam.

Very promising! Perhaps something to play with kids after Candle and Figment.

I've played the demo at Gamescom. The game is surprisingly fun, although the mechanics (at least of the first few levels) are really simple (forward, back, interact).
Also, people who have been growing up in the 1990s will enjoy the nostalgia.

I'll definitely buy it on release day.

If the common denominator is puzzler with striking visuals, I'd also add Hue, Never Alone and Pavilion to that list.

I never actually finished Candle, as I rage quit on the final puzzle. Overall, a very good game, but some of the puzzles were definitely more frustrating than fun to me.

Did it create a good atmosphere for you? From looks and description, it reminds me of Oxenfree, a game I don't remember for great game mechanics either, but did like...

Yep, exactly that. The atmosphere is perfect. Only thing: It needs time to relax, the game is quite slow.

Yaay! This post/Tweet caught my eye. I had been eyeing this game when it was first brought up/mentioned but was discouraged when I saw it wouldnt be going onto Linux. As usual, Gaming on Linux keeps updating and sure enough, the creator of "The Gardens Between" is gonna give Linux users a shot.

Wishlisted.....
