The board game Gloomhaven is getting a digital adaption that's coming to Steam next year, the developer said they're keeping an eye on Linux support requests. Publisher Asmodee Digital has announced they've teamed up with developer Flaming Fowl Studios for it.

Here's what the developer said on the Steam forum:

Keep chiming in on this thread if Linux is your preferred platform, I'm keeping an eye on it. The more people that want this the better the chances are that we'll be able to make this happen for you all (I can't promise anything though, ultimately it isn't up to me. But being able to say loads of fans of the game have asked for it will help a lot to persuade the people making that call).

So if you do want to see it on Linux, giving it a post to let them know in this linked forum topic might help. If you do wishlist it, be sure to set Linux as your platform preference on Steam, you can do so at the bottom of this page.

They also put out a teaser video recently, although it doesn't show much at all:

Looks like it's a combination of isometric view and 1ps? Interesting...!

Huh, I'm on the designer's mailing list and I had no idea they were making a digital version of it. The graphics remind me of Hand of Fate, interestingly. I haven't had a chance to try the board game yet, but I expect I will before long. Will see then how interesting the port sounds.

I really hope it happens. I don't know how close it will be to the board game, but I also don't really care. The board game is the #1-ranked of all time currently, and I can't see that moving any time soon. It isn't MY personal #1, but it is very good. The box is massive, the game is massive, and I don't get to play it as much as I would like. A digital version would be perfect for me.

I've spent many, many hours playing the board game with two friends - but one friend is 45 miles away and the other is about 10 miles away. Getting the three of us together is challenging and we're lucky if we get three or four sessions a year! This year, to date, none at all... :(

It's kind of a shame that this digital version doesn't look it's going to support any kind of multiplayer. That would have been, literally, a dream come true. Still, it's a great game and I'll still be delighted to play it single player.

It will, just not during early access. They posted in multiple threads on Steam that multiplayer and campaign mode were their priorities once early access is launched.

I still don't get this attitude. Of course there are people on Linux who will be interested. Why wouldn't there be? If developers did their jobs right and targeted cross platform from day one then releasing a Linux version wouldn't be a big deal. Seriously, the Linux gaming market has matured way past the point where we should be begging for developers to support us. If they make a Linux version, great. If they don't, it's their loss. There are plenty of other games for us to choose from.

I really think it's time people put the "begging" comment back in the box. It's not begging to show your support for someone, for a developer who is unsure. The reality is we're still a sub-1% market on Steam, some need a little push and I'm happy to help the push. We have absolutely not matured to the point where we don't need to ask for more games, how many games still don't release for Linux? A lot.

Yeah, there's plenty of other games - but not for the people who want this particular title.

Never mind the fact that the majority of potential customers will never even see let alone respond to that thread, so it's a very poor way to gauge player interest.

Like I said, if they support Linux then great. If not, there are other developers who will be happy to take my money. No hard feelings on my part. Just telling it like it is. ^_^

Quoting: PatolaAnd the developer asked for this type of feedback.
Yes, and that's why I said I really don't understand this attitude from developers. Of course there are Linux gamers who will be interested in his game if he makes it for our preferred OS. It's a question that doesn't need to be asked.

Quoting: PatolaDon't be so grumpy.
Sorry, cynicism and sarcasm are my default modes. :D

Hmm the no multiplayer part bugs me out as well.
Also , kinda lost hope for these kind of "comment here if you want linux" things.
