For those of you who like to live life on the edge, the Steam Client Beta was updated yesterday with some fixes for Steam Play amongst other things.

For Steam Play, Valve fixed an issue with install scripts for Steam Play games sometimes not running correctly after you've used Big Picture Mode. Additionally, something a few people noticed with Steam Play was missing DLC, this should also now be fixed. Hopefully not long before those go in the stable client, since they can be quite troublesome issues.

The beta also updates the embedded Chromium version in Steam to Chromium 68, fixes a bug with the new Steam Chat system, allows you to rearrange Xbox controllers in the Big Picture Mode overlay and prevents Big Picture Mode quitting if a game is using its overlay.

Steam Link was also updated, to allow local multiplayer by streaming to multiple devices at the same time which sounds pretty sweet.

See the release notes here.

I wonder if they'll ever add broadcasting to the Linux/Mac Steam clients. Tried to share my game screen with my brother a few weeks ago, but the Linux client still doesn't support it. A bit odd since the Steam Link works just fine.

Yeah, we've been without the feature for a long time now I do wonder why it's not in.

Can someone sum up which of those games is :
a) a native linux game
b) runs with proton out of the box
c) runs with proton ( with some tricks )
d) is really windows only
(Maybe liamdave can add the results to the main article)

Update:
I have absolutely no clue why this post is in this topic! I wrote it in the HumbleBundle topic ( where it makes more sense )

You're too nice. We've been without the feature from forever. I wonder if Valve isn't waiting on something magical from Vulkan or some such. Whatever their reasons, my countenance darkens and I glower every time I think about it. Nah, I'm joking. I don't glower.

Do the Batman Arkham games work yet? Those are the only ones I really care about.

Arkham Origins runs at least, but very poorly. I think it crashed out or I got so annoyed with the terrible graphical glitches that I quit the game and moved on to the next test.

There's a pretty good compatibility list available.

Grim Dawn still borked. There's some speculation it's related to the anti-piracy measures in the game? I'm not sure why it's fine with regular WINE and dxvk, but not Proton? I didn't think Proton was that much different than WINE. Would be nice if there were a fix for it, since it would be nice to have all my games in one spot, rather than scattered between two different prefixes.

Proton has wine 3.7 as base and current wine is 3.16.
Wine 3.7 was released on 27. April.
I wish Valve would use Proton BETA ALWAYS with newest wine.
Let's wait until 1st October. I'm sure some "magic" will happen:)

According to the reports, it should run pretty well:

Arkham City should run as well, after some changes:

Looks like you have to jump through some hoops to get .NET installed, but it's promising.

Arkham City GOTY apparently has a workaround :

I haven't tried it yet because I want to replay them in order and Arkham Asylum GOTY does not work. Neither does Arkham Knight.

Installed the Witcher 3 and played for an hour. Had to disabled all the NVIDIA hairworks otherwise Geralt had a shaved head!

Running on Ultra settings and the first hour averaged between 30 and 45 FPS with Vsync off and frames set to unlimited and HBAO+ enabled.

GPU is a watercooled R9-290X
CPU is i7-3770
Plenty of ram (32GB)
Ubuntu 18.04.1 with linux kernel 4.18.8
Padoka Stable mesa v8.1.7

So in a nutshell running ULTRA with my ageing rig above with hairworks off, Vsync off and frames set to unlimited and HBAO+ enabled!

GREAT!

Witcher 3 is not in their list.

Apparently there is a DX11 call for Stream Output that doesn't exist with Vulkan because there is a new way to do it which isn't compatible with DX11 Stream Output. So the DXVK-WINE-Proton guys will cook up a custom extension to fix the Stream Output which should fix the hair thingy in Witcher 3 and possible other myriad of rendering bugs like invisible monsters that shouldn't be invisible, etc.

The DX11 Stream Output also affects a whole host of other DX11 games which show glitches on DXVK.

Ohoh! I just found a reason to get a 2nd steam link :D

I do wish they would do something about the inconsistency of screen casting tho, some titles will work just fine on Linux+Bigscreen, but will have strange scaling issues or just display pure green when played though the link ( while the actual Linux monitor shows the correct output )
