INSOMNIA: The Ark, the massively promising non-linear RPG from Mono Studio is going to release on September 27th, sadly without Linux support.

It's another game that was funded on Kickstarter back in 2014, giving them just short of $100K. They said back in 2015 they were going for a simultaneous release, they said so again in March this year but sadly that's not the case now.

The Linux version wasn't actually mentioned in their release announcement, leading to questions from Linux gamers. When asked about it, they simply said "We will work on Linux version after the initial release.".

I have to admit, it's quite dissapointing to now be told they will work on it after the Windows release. I do hope they don't let us down, as we've been left waiting so many times before.

Set aboard an abandoned space metropolis, INSOMNIA: The Ark will offer up 12 possible endings, a flexible perk system with craftable items and plenty of loot. It does look really good, so hopefully the release goes well enough to give them the time they want to push out the Linux build.

I've been eagerly awaiting this game for four years, I can wait a little longer. I'm not happy about it. I daresay I'm a little pissed off by the news, frankly, but I can wait a little longer.

It's UE4 right? There may be technical difficutlies too.. a lot of UE4 games sadly ended up having quite some issues on Linux.

Better that and they polish the game instead of releasing it bugged, but I hope they don't abdon it due the difficulties, as other studios already did.

reading the kickstarter page they said initially the release take place in q4 2015?
QuoteRelease date: Q4 2015 on PC. Mac and Linux to be determined.
thats a small delay i must say :-) i guess they had much bigger problems than to decide which platforms will indeed be supported.

Linux support was promised at the KS campaign, otherwise I wouldn't have backed the game, BUT I guess when you develop a game on a big (changing) multi platform engine, target platforms are one of the last things in the pipeline. You have to have a game to be able to port it.
So every delay hits the porting targets most, sometimes even bug fixing for the main (already released) platform version.

Ok people, we do remember what we have promised quite well. We hoped we will be able to launch all versions simultaneously, however due to the feedback we have received during the closed beta we realised we need to focus on improving core mechanics of the game. Combining both things would be a disaster. We don't see Steam Play as a way to skip native Linux version, just as a temporary solution.

Thanks for the confirmation! I'll gladly use the temporary solution until the native version arrives. :)

Thank you for understanding! Also excuse me for not being available here earlier to talk to everyone. It's hard to keep an eye on the whole internet :D
