Good morning, it's question time here again on GamingOnLinux as we enter another weekend. Wipe that sleep from your eyes, grab a drink and come chat.
This weekend I have a tasty menu waiting, including some glorious flailing about in Rocket League (40% off on Humble). Even though 99% of my games are mostly me chasing the ball, watching it enter my goal from afar I still find it completely addictive. I'm slowly starting to learn how to do those slick rocket jumps (I even saved a goal by doing one—go me), but they're certainly not easy to be able to pull off.
I will no doubt be pulled into playing some more awesome co-op games with my son, he's recently taken quite a liking to Wizard of Legend which is surprising as it's not exactly an easy game for a younger audience. I think the fact that he can run around with me, as a Wizard and customise what spells he has (as well as using all my damn diamonds buying more) is a big selling point.
I was seriously hoping to finally be able to play the backer beta of Crazy Justice, but sadly Black Riddles Studio's communication has been repeatedly quite poor. The Linux version was supposed to be patched over a week ago which didn't happen, then again it was going to be patched "in the next two days" which also came and went without a word. Sadly, Crazy Justice so far has been a major disappointment.
I will also be testing more of censored which is coming to Linux. Jokes aside, there are a number of games I'm testing that I can't talk about right now, but we're in for a fun year.

Scan haven't replaced my faulty RAM yet so I will stick to the Swith and, playing for first time, Star Wars: Dark Forces in the laptop.

Still playing a bunch of oldschool (WotLK) WoW on a private server via Wine, plus a bit of Avernum 4 via Proton on the side. Starting to get the itch to take another run at Pillars of Eternity though, so I may switch over once I get it re-installed.

Grabbed a copy of DOOM (2016) for 7€, thinking I would test this whole proton thing not expecting much...
IT RUNS SO SMOOTH!
It's amazing. Doom is the most demanding game I own and it runs pretty much flawlessly with Proton (and with regular Wine, as well). My only gripe is I can't get it to work with my Steam Link, which it does in Windows.

Now playing The witcher Enhanced edition over Proton. Buy it last week and ist great. i had The witcher 2 for 2 years, but i never get hooked because i didnt know the background. Lets see if now i can play it after this one.

I just stupidly did rm * on the root partition while trying to migrate to a new M.2 ssd. I stopped it within 2 seconds of having issued the command but already 8GB had been deleted, including everything in /bin and /usr/bin... :D
Luckily my last automatic backup was only 10 hours old, so I'm already back up and running with no data loss.

I play DooM 2016.
Runs smoothly as hell (pun intended).
The problem is that I've got issues with my 1000Hz mouse, sometimes it seems to block slightly, mostly when I look up or down. It's been reported on the Proton bug tracker, still no workaround. I tried the last Proton beta but it limits my screen resolution.
It's still playable nevertheless.

It's quite cheap on the humble store right now.
Sadly, I won't play much over the weekend, and I still have a huge backlog. So, tempted as I am, I think I'll refrain from buying more stuff. But after this, I intend to check every game in my library for compatibility with proton ;)

Back to games... Still playing 7 Billion Humans. I solved the two middle optimization tiers, but I'm still stuck at one optimization goal of the easiest tier. And the hardest puzzles are not too easy without optimization goals in the first place...Many of those are quite hard! I find it interesting that in the "small" vs "fast" optimizations, my "small" solutions often feel more hackish compared to the "fast" ones. It might just be me, though.
The game is great, though. I am at year 59 and 60 (middle of the last red zone), having optimized up to there...

It does help a lot since TW2 basically starts right after the events of TW1. Quite a different game though. I still enjoyed it a lot when I played it.

I'm back playing almost only Faeria again. They transitioned really well from "free to play" to "buy to play" (from a player's perspective who already had the free Faeria in his library and didn't have to pay for the "new" Faeria).
Now I try to get all those lore pages for all the cards in the game (which only give you a small story about the characters, nothing game deciding). You have to play certain cards a number of times to get their lore pages. It's deck building madness. :D

Just bought Enter the Gungeon (Jacksepticeye was replaying it and it looked awesome!) and managed to get it running on Arch Linux with Steam Controllers by using SC Controller, otherwise it crashes. (Don't know why SC Controller would make it not crash... :/ )
It's so much fun, my family is playing co-op in turns, it's a blast! (Haha...)

Considering that I actually end up invoking quite a few games through the terminal, especially games I am playing through WINE, "clicking" is not always the right action verb for me. ;)

Proton is using Wine 3.7 at the moment so any game that needs a later version just isn't going to work without some huge effort & lots of tweaks.Well, I don't have Gothic 1 on Steam, so I can't test. It works fine on my side, in all modes (fullscreen, fullscreen with virtual desktop emulation, and windowed mode). What's the version? Is it up-to-date? Have you tried updating it with the PlayerKit / System Pack?It’s v1.08j, of course up to date since Steam doesn’t let us keep old versions. I haven’t tried any patch. Mouse input works fine with wine staging 3.15 but not with proton. (Also music works with wine staging, probably because I have installed the directx dlls.)
I’ve seen some instructions in the GOG forums to fix a few issues with Gothic 1 and 2 (like screen resolution), but I’ll stop tinkering with Gothic for now.

Since Steam Play/Proton allowed me to play them again, I've been revisiting some of my old Windows-based games;
In recent days I've gone deep into Port Royale 2 & 3 (making spreadsheets to keep track of trade routes et al) and will revisit the Patrician series afterwards. I got to revisit Pandora in the original Borderlands (Still not released for Linux even if the sequel and pre-sequel are) as well, so I can finally connect it to the events in its sequels. I'm having some trouble with Fallout 3/New Vegas (but that's true for running it on Windows as well) and have to look if I can apply the unofficial patches to their Proton installations...
On the native side, Two Point Hospital has been a wonderful release recently, harkening back to Theme Hospital (which I never got working well through CorsixTH for some reason...) and the Early Access title Rise of Industry is making amazing progress.
So, lots to keep me busy this weekend, and probably through the next week.

Playing a little Slime Rancher just for relaxation and coming (sadly) near the end of a co-op playthrough of Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition with my spouse. It's been so much fun, I don't want it to end! I'm kind of hoping the sequel works with Proton....
