What are you playing this weekend?

By -

It's the weekend already? It's also September! When did that happen?

This weekend's main dish is going to be Two Point Hospital, the recent release that has you build a hospital and cure people from some really strange and slightly amusing afflications. So far it seems pretty good and runs really nicely. I will have some proper thoughts up early next week on that!

I've no doubt I will also be diving into some more BlazeRush (70% off on Humble) and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (60% off on Humble). Both of which I'm loving in local multiplayer with the mini-me.

Doom in Steam Play is also on the radar. I have to say I am really impressed with it, some good demon slaying to be had. The Vulkan performance is nuts, so smooth!

So the question is: what are you playing this weekend? Do let us know what you think about it!

Quoting: trawzI got This is the Police and Bioshock Infinite yesterday, and I still need to finish Undertales genocide route, but I can't get past Undyne. Anyone have tips?

Samsai did it on stream. It's a matter of try, try, try and if you die, try again.

Quoting: WorMzyI've been playing Mass Effect using Steam Play. For the most part, it's worked well. There have been a few crashes, but I think that's probably just the game rather than Proton.

Did you have to do anything special to make audio work? When I run Mass Effect using Steam Play, the intro audio works, and then the game is quiet.

Yeah, there's an asound override you need to do in winecfg: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40898

After that, sound works fine. For my system I had to run winecfg with the following prefix:
WINEPREFIX=/media/steam-ext4-fast/steamapps
compatdata/17460/pfx winecfg
you'll need to adjust your your setup.

Thank you, I'll give it a try.

Edit: I used the information in this link to force software audio, Mass Effect audio fix. It works perfectly now.

So many Proton games played. I haven't done anything with it apart from a few tests. Native FTW!

Except that I was playing Jackbox for the entire evening in a birthday stream. :D

I have a pet rat named Tux (I named him that since he has the same color scheme as a penguin), I'll be playing with him this weekend. I give him an hour of play everyday, but I'm gonna do a little extra today and tomorrow since he's been seeming a little down lately. All the local pet stores don't sell rats anymore so I haven't been able to get him a friend.

If you haven't finished/played it then you'd better play with OGSE mod.
I tried it, and it crashes when I start a new game.

Quoting: JSVRamirezI'm on the classics, DOTT Remastered and Ninja Pizza Girl. My daughter is choosing!
She has requested some Deponia for tomorrow, though.

Oh I hope one of my daughters will develop a fine taste like this...!

I'm playing the same things as I've been playing for the last year.
* Rise to Ruins (it just released 31 unstable5c if you do the beta) (steam: 529h)
* Dwarf Fortress (still the July release)
* Battlevoid:Harbinger. (steam: 139h)
* Settlers II (relaxing)
* Turmoil (great if you wait for the dinner to finish cooking) (steam: 79h)

And yes, Liam, you are responsible for three of those habits ;)

Sure, native is the best. But after I have seen how many gamers are listing here Proton, it is great, that Wine gaming will count as Linux one for Valve. It will better present market share. Also another big advantage of Proton is the fact that it will allow people, who are not fans of Wine configuring, to play Wine titles without tweaking (Proton is not there yet of course, but some games already "just work". No prefix creation, no winetricks operation, just click and play).

Played Slay The Spire, which is a highly recommended game - From purchase, 5 months ago, nearly done 200 hours in it.

Braveland - got it free in Humble's Reward give-away - Played for an hour or so. Working good.

Testing out Steam/Proton/WINE with:

The Legend Of Grimrock II - Played about an hour so far, and it is playing great.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition - Played for an hour, then modded it with the Unofficial Fixes mod, and played for another 2-3 hours. Playing well, APART from the NPC audio (silent). I think there is some sort of fix. Subtitles ON helps.

SCUM - As it is most likely going to come to Linux, and some people have had success with Proton, and the EA price isn't bad, and the game appeals to me - I decided to buy it. And played for about 3 hours on Proton. When it first started up, playing Single Player, the graphics were painfully slow for me at 4K resolution. I then tried various things, the command-line switches mentioned here and eventually went for cutting the resolution to 1920x1080 and the use all cores command-line, not the sm4 command. At those settings, it is running decently smooth for me. One thing for me doing this, I needed to go into SCUM Settings, select Windowed Mode, and then select Full Screen mode, to get it to fill the screen (while I'm running a 4K Gnome desktop). The game looks very nice, but Early-Access play leaves a fair bit to be desired, particularly hand-to-hand combat versus annoyingly-tough zombies (that RUN). [As a regular player of Rust and 7 Days To Die - I much prefer the game play in those games at this stage.] Also as someone mentioned on the SCUM release thread, due to the recently added EAC anti-cheating tech update, SCUM isn't allowing my Linux/Proton system to game on Multi-Player servers :/ Instant kick.

Monster Slayers - Another Windows game, working perfectly in Proton. Played a couple of hours. It's another Card-type game. Already owned it on Windows (some bundle) so decided to give it a try.
