What are you playing this weekend?

By -

It's the weekend already? It's also September! When did that happen?

This weekend's main dish is going to be Two Point Hospital, the recent release that has you build a hospital and cure people from some really strange and slightly amusing afflications. So far it seems pretty good and runs really nicely. I will have some proper thoughts up early next week on that!

I've no doubt I will also be diving into some more BlazeRush (70% off on Humble) and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (60% off on Humble). Both of which I'm loving in local multiplayer with the mini-me.

Doom in Steam Play is also on the radar. I have to say I am really impressed with it, some good demon slaying to be had. The Vulkan performance is nuts, so smooth!

So the question is: what are you playing this weekend? Do let us know what you think about it!

There is a fix for the sound issues in Skyrim but it only works on the original version, special edition crashes badly when it's applied and both still freeze on exit for me, it's playable though. :D

I've got an odd craving to take another shot at Avernum 5, but I don't really want to screw with beta stuff with Proton. Maybe once it's got a full, stable release but not right now.

Portal 2 and Warcraft 3 (with wine).

Didn't have much time to play much, but managed to do the Dirt Rally event on Sunday and played a bit GTA V via steam play. Luckily save games worked from my previous non-steam version.

It's safe to try it, I just installed & played some Avernum 5 with Steam Play, no idea what I'm doing in game but it just works as stable as if it was in windows, no messing with settings or tweaking Wine, just install & run.

Quoting: g000hAlso as someone mentioned on the SCUM release thread, due to the recently added EAC anti-cheating tech update, SCUM isn't allowing my Linux/Proton system to game on Multi-Player servers :/ Instant kick.

That game, too? And you paid for it? (I got kicked on Darwin Project due to that) These EAC guys are really skrewing us over. A more coordinate approach against their prejudiced exclusion attitudes should be taken.

This is likely to be the case with any Anti-Cheat technology implemented in Windows Multi-Player titles. RUST has Anti-Cheat too, but because I'm playing it natively under Linux, I'm accepted as a regular non-cheating player. Noting that SCUM is Early Access, and the Devs have said they're going to bring it to Linux. I've got plenty to do in Single-Player anyhow. Maybe Steam/Proton will do something about Anti-Cheat tech for us in future. I'm not expecting to play SCUM properly until it is ON Linux, which is probably 6+ months away. Native play and ongoing improvements will likely make a big difference to the mediocre performance too.

N.B. My Steam/Proton play counts as Linux, so it encourages the Devs to support our platform.

So... what I actually ended up playing was GTA: San Andreas. Works beautifully on Proton, as does the “Silent Patch”, which fixes a few of the main annoyances on modern hardware, including the hanging during scene changes reported by some Linux users. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any other mods to work; you really need the v1.0 binary for that, and although it's possible to downgrade the Steam version, the Windows program for doing it doesn't work under Wine.

Still, I've got the vanilla game; I'm happy. I mean, sure, GTAV's a technical marvel, but SA's always been my favourite.

Good to know. I've bought it on GOG sale, but didn't try it yet.
