Good news for those who love their building games, as settlement building game The Colonists looks fantastic and the developer has confirmed their plans for Linux support.
Writing on the Steam forum today in reply to a post I made asking about Linux support, they said:
Sorry for the late reply - we'll definitely be doing a post-release update for Linux, keep an eye out on here or on Discord, thanks
Really good news, I'm honestly pretty excited to give it a go.

The sci-fi setting certainly speaks to me, regular readers will know by now how much I love anything space-related and so having a city builder set on another planet is certainly something I want to check out.
You will be taking control of self-replicating robots who've escaped from Earth to search for a new home, to fullfill their dream of being Human. Interestingly, the game will have you advance through different ages as well as the usual harvesting of natural resources, exploration, research and so on.
It seems to have two different game modes, one to have a peaceful time building or a race against time with AI colonies to battle against.

Quoting: Doc AngeloRobots drink water, eat meat and build wooden houses? Hm. Isn't that a little bit odd?
They are preparing a settlement for humans.

Well, that's what they were designed to do, but they've gone rogue and now want to "be" human. In order to fulfil that desire it makes sense that they demand the same resources as humans. They probably have some way of converting this stuff to energy behind the scenes. :)
It does seem like the dev started out with a human colony game, but then wanted to make it more unique without completely changing the mechanics.
Quoting: TiedemannI also see there's the Settlers thing with carriers between "flags" ^_^
I noticed this, too. The game seems to be generally based on Settlers 2 (best version, imho) with improvements - e.g. I like the resource meters that make it much easier to see an unbalanced economy.
Very interested in this one, as alternative to Widelands.

I imagine animating these bots is way less work than animating people. :)
